Cambodia News, (Phnom Penh): A gunman driving a 570 luxury car shot and killed a motorcyclist on the afternoon of November 2, 2022 on Street 1011 and Street 1978, Sangkat Phnom Penh Thmey, Khan Sen Sok.

A spokesman for the Phnom Penh Municipal Police told CEN earlier that a man in a 570-Lexus had come forward to confess to the shooting on the afternoon of November 2, 2022, with experts now questioning him. Police revealed that the gunman, Sao Sokhon, was a member of the armed forces in civilian dress, driving a black Lexus 570 with license plate Phnom Penh 2BX-7799, and using a pistol.

According to sources at the scene, before the incident, they saw the men from the Office of Minor Offenses of the Phnom Penh Municipal Police cracking down on a burglary, and the police officers were chasing behind a man riding a black Honda Scoopy, with license plate Phnom Penh 1JG-4729, shouting "Stop thief!" Then the gunman in the Lexus 570 fired a pistol at the motorcyclist, hitting him square in the torso with a bullet. He was fatally injured and died near his motorbike. The dead man has been identified as Rith Chetra, 24 years old.

After the incident, the light and heavy criminal forces of the Phnom Penh Municipal Police, the Criminal Department of the Ministry of Interior, the specialized forces of the Sen Sok District Police Inspectorate and the Sen Sok District Armed Forces, along with the forensic experts arrived to search the scene, find the witnesses, and examine the body.

The police have not yet confirmed that the gunman who was driving the 570 car was a member of the police force or from which unit, and the competent authorities will continue to question the man and the eye-witnesses, and all the security cameras near the scene of the shooting will checked to verify the witness statements.

A high ranking military officer who shot a man dead in a Phnom Penh street on Wednesday has today been sent to court

According to police, the suspect, Sao Sokhon, a lieutenant colonel, shot and killed the young man at 1:30pm on Wednesday on street 1011 in Poung Peay village, Phnom Penh Thmei commune.

After fleeing, the suspect was arrested later by police.

After interrogation, the suspect confessed to the killing at the Boeung Kak I Administrative Police Station, Tuol Kork district.

The suspect claimed that he thought that the victim was a thief, because he had bumped into the suspect’s vehicle and then acted in a ‘suspicious manner’ and tried to flee

The suspect claimed that he shouted at the motorcyclist but he did not stop.

The suspect then pulled a gun and shot the man dead in broad daylight, in front of horrified onlookers.

Cambodia News, Phnom Penh:The police force of Sen Sok district sent a military officer to the Phnom Penh Municipal Court on the afternoon of November 4, 2022, in order for the Prosecutor's Office to open a formal investigation and indictment while the suspect is being detained temporarily.

The case was submitted to Mr. Kim Hong San, Deputy Prosecutor of the Phnom Penh Municipal Court, to open an investigation into an unintentional killing: "A firearm exploded, causing the death of the victim."

Please note that the assailant, who was driving a Lexus 570, shot and killed a motorcyclist at about 1:10pm on November 2, 2022, in Phnom Penh Thmey Village, Sangkat Phnom Penh Thmey, Khan Sen Sok, Phnom Penh. According to the accused, the victim was being pursued by Phnom Penh Municipal Police (since identified as such) on a motorbike, yelling "thieves".

Witnesses said that a black Lexus 570 stopped at the scene, with a man getting out of the car who pulled out a pistol and fired a shot at themotorcyclist. He shot one bullet in the motorcyclist's back, pierced to the chest, causing death at a distance of more than 100 meters . After the explosion, he escaped, leaving the victim dead on the road.

Later in the afternoon, the criminal police, in cooperation with the local force of Sen Sok district, conducted a search until the target was identified, when suddenly the suspect entered to confess at the Boeung Kak 1 police station. The assailant was sent by the police to the Sen Sok district inspectorate for legal action.
The gunman was identified as Sao Sokhon, alias Pros Thom, over 40 years old, a military officer with the rank of colonel, who works as an aide to an oknha and serves as the driver of a Black Lexus 570 with license plate Phnom Penh 2BK-7799, equipped with a pistol.
He was arrested while confessing at the Boeung Kak I police station in Toul Kork district, Phnom Penh.


The victim of the shooting is named Rithi Chetra, 24 years old, living in Factory Village, Sangkat Kork Khleang, Khan Sen Sok, Phnom Penh. A bullet hit him in the back of the chest, causing him to fall off while riding a black 2022 motorcycle, license plate Phnom Penh 1JG-4729.

In the latest version of events, the shooting incident has now become a shooting 'accident': allegedly the gunman fired into the ground and the bullet killed the victim by ricochet.

Soldier in Custody Over Shooting Alleged Thief

A soldier fatally shot a man on a Phnom Penh sidewalk after joining police officers in chasing an alleged thief, police said.

The soldier confessed and his case is now being investigated by the courts.

Sen Sok district’s Phnom Penh Thmey commune police chief Koe Santhoth said that police were in pursuit of a man believed to have broken into a residence for theft.

People were shouting “thief, thief” as police chased the man, Rithy Chetra, 24, on Wednesday. The soldier, Sao Sokhon, 40, was driving past in a car and got out to help the authorities, Santhoth said.

“But in helping, he didn’t have enough technique which caused [his gun to] fire. According to witnesses, he fired into the ground but the bullet ricocheted,” he said on Friday.

There was only one shot, Santhoth said, but Chetra was hit in the middle of his back and collapsed after continuing for about 200 meters. Chetra died shortly after the shooting, he said.

Am I missing something here. Trained military officer who is paid by the government really works as a "aide" to an oknha carries a firearm and accidently fires his authorised weapon into the ground that hits a bloke on a motto causing a fatal injury.

Coincidence pure and simple

I'm more likely to believe the story if they reported the shot was fired into the air and it ricocheted off a cloud.
