Cambodia News (Phnom Penh): At 10:00 pm on November 1, 2022, at the Borey Vimean Phnom Penh construction site in Sangkat Chhmounh, Khan Sen Sok, Phnom Penh, Chhoun Chhieng, a 28-year-old construction worker and two other men were beaten up by the security guards. The incident caused a backlash as all the construction workers gathered to confront the guards.

According to the victim, he's been working for years as a contracted construction worker for the Borey Vimean Phnom Penh, and he had never made enemies with anyone at work. He claimed that after he finished his shift last night, he went back to his quarters in the construction compound.
At around 8:00 pm, he couldn't sleep, so he went to chat with 2 other workers nearby, when suddenly, two of the security guards arrived on a motorbike and shouted at men to shut up. Then one of the guards smacked him in the head with a walkie-talkie and beat him until he was bleeding. Then the guards started beating the other 2 workers and dragged all three of them to the security guard post without telling them what they had done wrong.

The incident caused an uproar amongst the other construction workers because of the extreme violence of the security guards' attack, and police officers were called in to de-escalate the situation.
The workers claimed that similar violent incidents involving the security team had occurred previously on the building site. The security guards involved in the beating were taken to the police station for further investigation.
