Hundreds of Vietnamese Reported Escaping from Bavet Casinos
Mass Casino Escape Reported
Cambodia News, Bavet City: Reports are coming in that hundreds of Vietnamese nationals working illegally in Bavet casinos made a break for freedom on 25 October 2022.
An unconfirmed report from Bavet authorities suggests there may have been two separate incidents, but for the moment police confirm that around two hundred Vietnamese nationals rushed to the border from the Cambodian side, and that (other) Vietnamese workers, who were being loaded on to a bus from King Crown and Mok Bai casinos (presumably they were sold elsewhere), made a mass escape. It is reported that people were also jumping out of casino windows to escape, and and at least one person is reported to have died.
Here are the photos taken at the scene, and we will update when confirmed news comes in.

Re: Hundreds of Vietnamese Reported Escaping from Bavet Casinos
Vietnamese border authorities at Mộc Bài border gate say that over 800 Vietnamese (mostly illegal casino or online) workers have returned to Vietnam in just 2 days.
Hundreds of Vietnamese workers return home from Cambodia
October, 27/2022 - 17:33
Most of these workers do not have enough legal documents to complete immigration procedures. Many of them were tricked into becoming illegal workers in Cambodia.
TÂY NINH — More than 800 Vietnamese workers returned from Cambodia via Mộc Bài International Border Gate in southern Tây Ninh Province during October 26-27, according to the province's Border Guard Command.
Border officials are working with authorities of Bến Cầu District and Tây Ninh Province to deal with procedures for hundreds of Vietnamese workers to return, said Colonel Lê Hồng Vương, Commander of the Border Guard Command.
Most of these workers do not have enough legal documents to complete immigration procedures. Many of them were tricked into becoming illegal workers in Cambodia.
Vương said authorised forces in Cambodia have increased inspection and supervision of freelance workers at companies and establishments found to be employing workers illegally. These companies proactively let Vietnamese workers return Việt Nam to prevent heavy fines.
Investigations revealed that most of these workers found jobs via the internet and social media websites and illegally entered Cambodia to work at casinos.

Re: Hundreds of Vietnamese Reported Escaping from Bavet Casinos
That's not "escaping"; it's called " escape-clause for workers and bosses, due to conflicts over working conditions".
Spoiler:
But IMO, when it blows over, the cybercrime bosses will be back recruiting workers for Cambodia. Of course they can move to Myanmar, but Cambodia's Sihanoukville has a great little international airport, as does Dara Sakor in Koh Kong, so why make life complicated and move to Myanmar?
It's a theory. You saw it here first.

Kien Giang (VNA) – Border guards in the Mekong Delta province on October 28 received 67 Vietnamese citizens returning from Cambodia at the Ha Tien International Border Gate.
They were previously scammed into going to Cambodia for jobs with high salary and then forced to work in fraudulent establishments and organisations owned by foreigners.
Sixty-five of the group was found without legal entry, residence, and work permits by the Cambodian competent agency during an inspection of a company in Preah Sihanouk city in the province of the same name. They were then assisted by the Vietnamese General Consulate in the province and local authorities before their repatriation.

Although authorities recognise illegal employment and unusual lodging of the "employees" there is no closing down of the establishments, arrest of bosses, owners or sanctions etc.
Wonder why not???
