Someone once (or twice) told me to always ensure there was more than one way out - so you don’t get shut in during a fire (those barred windows can be tricky).

No metal grinding going on next door - that’s a killer

Check out the electrics and your shower fittings

Check flooding history if on the ground floor

Most important is where do you go when you go out. You might as well be

I get more annoyed when you can't get properly cold water because the rooftop tank has been heating up all day

I'm the opposite.

Stay away from the "going out" areas.
They can easily be visited.

It's nice to come home to a quiet place where you can relax.

I hope you go out of your home every day. Do you go to girlie bars every day?

If so, congrats, and you really should look for a quiet place that is just a short commute.

I actually feel the same way. I stay near Aeon Mall 1. It's down one of those alleys. If anyone remembers "The lost room" restaurant on street 21-- That block is pretty quiet, yet close enough in my opinion to go anywhere needed.

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned security. I'm not overly-concerned about this but it's important before I can feel comfortable. It's different if you are living in a condo because they should have their own guards but these can cause difficulties themselves.
So personally I need my own entrance from the street and some solid gates with enough space to park at least a few motorbikes. Other than that any vulnerable perimeters should have razor wire.
The problem with many apartments in the central districts like Daun Penh and Prampi Makara is that they can be very nice when you get inside but the entrance could be down a grubby lane and up a few steep flights and winding hallways with no barrier between the street and your front door.

Well, it turns out that a few of the members here have had some problems in the KOW after skinny dipping. But that was another thread best to be forgotten. It would be sound advice to check out the nudity policy of the building if You are so inclined.

As for me i have the following list of wants:
- Must have a balcony facing south or west with a view that includes some activity that I can gaze upon when consuming my afternoon tea (beer)
- Not to noisy between 0200 and 0800
- Security
- A good looking clean bathroom with some space
- A good bed

And I must agree with Chad S. Somewhere close by to get some food and provisions.
