Cambodia Prepares to Hold ASEAN Summits
Over 10,000 Police Officers to be Deployed for Security and Safety during ASEAN Summits
AKP Phnom Penh, October 25, 2022 --
More than 10,000 security forces will be deployed to maintain the security and safety during the 40th and 41st ASEAN Summits and Related Summits on Nov. 8-13, 2022 in Phnom Penh, said Lt. Gen. Chhay Kim Khoeun, Deputy Commissioner General and Spokesperson for the National Police.
He stressed that the National Police Commissioner General is paying close attention to this priority task.
“Some of the deployed forces have been additionally trained on skills including defence techniques and cooperating well with the specialised forces from other countries such as the Interpol, Aseanapol, FBI and the police forces of Singapore, Japan, Vietnam, China, Australia and other partners,” he added.
Cambodia has also received support and cooperation in security information exchange and technical assistance from Japan, China, and Vietnam.
So far, Cambodia has ensured high security for eight important ASEAN-related meetings, including the 55th ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting and the ASEAN Economic Ministers' Meeting.
Drawing on the experience, the Cambodian police authorities have continued to regularly update the security operational action plan, because the actual situation is not the same, he continued.
Lt. Gen. Chhay Kim Khoeun considered the upcoming regional and international gathering as a great pride and historic moments for Cambodia and the security of the gatherings will reflect Cambodia's capacity in handling such high-level events.
As the chair of the bloc this year, Cambodia is committed to leading ASEAN under the theme “ASEAN A.C.T.: Addressing Challenges Together” for harmony, peace, and prosperity in the whole region.
The sidelines of the Summits include the 25th ASEAN-China Summit, 23th ASEAN-Republic of Korea Summit, 25th ASEAN Plus Three Summit, 19th ASEAN-India summit, 2nd ASEAN-Australia Summit, 25th ASEAN-Japan Summit, 10th ASEAN-U.S. Summit, and 17th East Asia Summit.

Citywide clean-up ordered for ASEAN Summit
Orm Bunthoeurn | Publication date 25 October 2022 | 20:00 ICT
The Phnom Penh Municipal Administration has called on the public to participate in maintaining the beauty, hygiene and public order of the capital during the 40th and 41st ASEAN Summit and related meetings, scheduled to be held in Phnom Penh from November 10-13.
In an October 24 letter, municipal governor Khuong Sreng asked residents to be sure to dispose of household waste according to administration guidelines.
“Please keep good order in your front yards, and beautify your houses. Be sure to follow the scheduled garbage collection, and don’t pile trash outside your homes until it due to be picked up,” he said.
He also asked people to display the national flag in front of their homes, making sure the flags were clean and not torn. This would display pride in their national identity and promote the prestige of the Kingdom, he said, adding that Cambodia’s rich culture and traditions were worthy of celebration, especially as it hosted the forum.
Sreng added that people who own vacant land or construction sites along public roads should erect fences in front of their property, to improve the appearance of the city.
“In addition, all construction site owners should be aware that they must temporarily suspend construction as high-level national and international delegations are passing by,” he said.

Re: Cambodia Prepares to Hold ASEAN Summits
Crackdown announced on bad and illegal parking that destroys the beauty of Cambodia's capital city (and incidentally causes traffic jams):
ALSO! Stop parking in the middle of the streets and on the pavements, says PP Governor
Cambodia News, Phnom Penh: Once again, Mr. Khuong Sreng, the Governor of Phnom Penh, has issued new directives to the 14 District Governors in Phnom Penh and the Phnom Penh Municipal Police to work together to clear the road and stop the parking anarchy on the city's roads which causes traffic congestion.
In a meeting at Phnom Penh Capital Hall on the afternoon of October 25, 2022, Mr. Khuong Sreng stated that some sections of national roads in the suburbs of Phnom Penh were parked by hundreds of container trucks on the middle of the road, causing traffic jams and further damage to roads and this is not acceptable.
Mr. Khuong Sreng said that the issue of public order must be taken seriously to serve the interests of the majority of population, and not allow a few people to abuse the streets and sidewalks.
The new order of Mr. Khuong Sreng was made during the Phnom Penh Municipal Authority's meeting to monitor the progress of the work of public order on the streets and the use of all public sidewalks in Phnom Penh.
Mr. Khuong Sreng stated that the work of organizing public order on the streets must be done regularly to facilitate traffic for the people and to enhance the beauty of Phnom Penh, while Cambodia is hosting the ASEAN Summit and Relevant meeting in early November 2022.
