You'll face jail if you spend wrongly transferred money,
You would face a jail term of one and a half years if you spend money wrongly transferred to your account.
people in this situation should follow a four step plan.
1. Don't use the money.
2. Contact the bank.
3. On no account return the money yourself (it can be a ruse by gangs laundering money and get you in trouble).
4. Ensure that you work with the bank to ensure the money is returned by them.

Thought that was common knowledge ... but of course when the bank inadvertantly adds/removes money from your account by mistake, well ... "Your call is important to us, we will connect you to a 'premium customer service executive' as soon as possible" // Drops call //

There was a guy in NZ who applied for an overdraft of 100k for his business, there was a balls up at the bank and he received 10 million instead, someone is a careless typist and added a few zeros. He did a runner, left the country and from I remember of the case he was eventually extradited, the bank got 'some' of their money back and he got a few years in prison.
But when he gets out after a year or two he still has a good chunk of the money that he managed to hide while overseas, he'll be a rich man.

Theft by finding, or something along those lines.
Not everywhere, maybe, but if you find money (or other property) it is not automatically yours. After a period of time, following whatever legal process, you might be able to claim it. If It isn’t reported, you benefit from it but cannot account for it, it’s deemed theft.
I’m guessing that that may be the basis for disclaimers in emails, too, where the contents of the email may not automatically be yours to benefit from just because you received it by mistake.

Honest question, related to above:
walking home at night, you spy a wallet on the sidewalk
do u
1. open it and take the money and drop the wallet off at a police station (anonymously) or Post box ( if ur in a country that has them)
2. post on FB you found such and such's wallet with a scan of the id without any $$ in it
3. post on FB you found it WITH the $$ in it
4. drop the wallet off at a police station or post box WITH the money in it
5. throw it into the garbage thinking ..... fuck him/her
not ashamed to admit it.... #1

I think if not #4 (maybe #3), then #6- admit to nothing in writing on the internet.phuketrichard wrote: ↑Sun Oct 23, 2022 3:22 pm Honest question, related to above:

I know what I would do in UK/Bits of Europe/US. I believe I know what would happen if I did the same in Phnom Penh.

I’ve found a half dozen wallets in my lifetime, returned 3 directly to the owners, handed 2 into the police station and 1 to the driver of the bus I found it on.
All handed over exactly as I found them, I wouldn’t even consider option 1, I was raised better than that.

Me, I'm dishonest, and you can always trust a dishonest man to be dishonest. Honestly, it's the honest ones you have to watch out for.

Re: i dont know what to make of this? laugh or cry
Yonks ago, I lost 100,000 baht after using a Bangkok Bank ATM machine on Sukhumvit Road - the machine had a fake card reader, copied my card and someone emptied my bank account. Bangkok Bank were very sympathetic and offered to waive the charge for a new ATM card! But the 100,000 baht was my problem they said.
Some months later, the sum of 100,000 baht magically appeared in my Bangkok Bank account, and then a hasty and urgent correspondence from the bank explaining that someone at their bank had mistakenly credited my account with 100,000 baht, but under their banking rules, they needed my written agreement to deduct that amount from my account.
Not surprisingly, I refused them permission and withdrew the money using my shiny new ATM card.... my relationship with that bank deteriorated afterwards!
