The Irving incident has the same pattern. The man mentions a movie/book he likes and suffers professional consequences. I find this all ridiculous, stifling and scary.Random Dude wrote: ↑Sun Nov 06, 2022 1:43 pm Before Twitter celebrities were fucking up and blaming the paparazzi and tabloid newspapers for being there at their most embarrassing moment and making them look like dickheads. Now they have smartphones and they do it themselves, but now they blame the public for reading their embarrassing tweets and thinking they're dickheads.

I haven't been following his story but yeah, I get where you're coming from, these things are taken to stupid extremes way too often. Luckily most of us aren't in the situation where we have corporate sponsors.Big Daikon wrote: ↑Sun Nov 06, 2022 2:25 pmThe Irving incident has the same pattern. I gotta say though, if you're going to live in the world of getting paid big money to endorse a shoe common sense (and your contract dictates this too probably) would be not using your celebrity status to push your bullshit. It puts your sponsors in a tough position, they just want to do business not get caught up in other people's crap and tanking their own reputation. If a celebrity is going to get on their soapbox regardless they really can't complain when their sponsors are forced to cut ties with them.

In 2016, we watched celebrities completely lose their minds over the possibility of a Trump presidency. The double standard is glaringly apparent: some opinions are acceptable, others are not.Random Dude wrote: ↑Sun Nov 06, 2022 2:57 pm If a celebrity is going to get on their soapbox regardless they really can't complain when their sponsors are forced to cut ties with them.
(Both West and Irving have brought up the idea that blacks are descendants of the original Jewish people. There is not much historical support for the claim, but it pops up in sone black nationalist circles. Many Jewish people think it is anti-semitic.)

Without getting totally down this rabbit hole it's pretty clear that Kanye is a mentally ill guy who is surrounded by people who don't have his welfare or best interests at heart - from his PT, to his ex, to his managers etcRandom Dude wrote: ↑Sun Nov 06, 2022 2:57 pmI haven't been following his story but yeah, I get where you're coming from, these things are taken to stupid extremes way too often. If he did have a supportive group around him he'd be off the internet and this whole mess would be nipped in the bud so to speak
One silver lining is no more Yeezys - I hated those garbage shoe designs lol

Always thought Ye's music sucked. Can't hold a candle to Ice Cube solo or early Ice-T.

Someone saying they support one politician over another is acceptable, especially in a democratic election.
Someone saying we should go deathcon 3 on a race of people is generally not acceptable.
People are quirky like that, especially since WW2, calling for genocide just isn't the done thing these days.

In contrast, Mel Gibson seemed to have some real friends in Hollywood. As such, he was allowed back in.Jerry Atrick wrote: ↑Sun Nov 06, 2022 3:07 pm

Ye could align himself with the Nation of Islam. Doubt it would help his career, but it would be a support group.

Gibson has enough money and clout that when he drunkenly said some anti semite shit to some traffic pigs all he had to do was enter rehab and issue a statement through his people expressing regretBig Daikon wrote: ↑Mon Nov 07, 2022 11:23 amIn contrast, Mel Gibson seemed to have some real friends in Hollywood. Kanye is not in as much control of his faculties as Gibson was imo

The pitchforks are coming out (again) for Chappelle.
(Of the 3, I actually like his work.)
