Minister of Agriculture dismissed by the King
Minister of Agriculture Veng Sakhon was dismissed from his post this Saturday evening, according to a Royal Decree signed by King Norodom Sihamoni.

According to the decree, the decision was made in accordance with a request made by Prime Minister HE.

Also today, the government has released an announcement that it has appointed Aun Pornmoniroth, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Minister of Economy and Finance, to be the Acting Minister of Agriculture.

In February this year, Prime Minister HE reprimanded Sakhon for not cooperating with other ministries and institutions, as the Premier gave his address at the Interior Ministry 2021 work review closing ceremony.

He cited an example when the Economy Ministry invited him to attend a meeting to prepare the procedure for importing live pigs from abroad but Sakhon refused to attend.
“I am very fed up with the work of Minister Veng Sakhon,” the Premier said at that time. “It only takes 24 hours for me to remove a minister.”

H.E. Dr. Aun Pornmoniroth, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Economy and Finance has been appointed Acting Minister of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) in addition to his current positions.

The appointment was made in a government’s decision signed on Oct. 8 by Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo HE, following the issuance of a Royal Decree removing H.E. Veng Sakhon from the post of Minister of MAFF.

The government’s decision stated that the Acting MAFF Minister exercises all authority in accordance with the laws and regulations in force to direct and manage the ministry’s work and its subordinate units as well as civil servants and staff who are administrative agents.

H.E. Dr. Aun Pornmoniroth will hold the position until the official appointment of the Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries.

This demotion is not as abrupt as it seems. The ex-Minister of Agriculture received a strong public warning from the PM last February. It seems that he did not listen.

Of course we will not ever really know all the ins and outs, but for me, it is obvious that when eight months ago the PM said publicly that the Minister of Agriculture, Veng Sakhon, was "refusing to cooperate", with HE and associated institutions, the Minister was living on borrowed time.

if that were the criteria, there wouldn't be much of a Ministry left.

Sounds like iron grandpa and his buddies missed out on a kickback from the live pig deal that Sakhon skipped, not that many ministers are respected for their work but he certainly was a busybody.
