Koh Pich Chinese Jewel Thieves Sent to Court

Cambodia News, (Phnom Penh): A Phnom Penh military police official said that two Chinese thieves who broke into a gold and jewellery shop, by breaking through a glass door armed with a hammer, were sent to court in Phnom Penh today, 30 September 2022.
It should be reminded that at around 1:54 AM on September 05, 2022, at the point of Building No. B43-B46 in Koh Pich, Village 14, Sangkat Tonle Bassac, Khan Chamkarmon, Phnom Penh, there was a case of breaking and entering a jewellery shop through a glass door, where the thieves escaped after stealing more than US$ 230,000 in cash as well as some diamond and gemstone jewelry.

After a three-week investigation, Phnom Penh Military Police in Chamkar Mon district arrested two Chinese suspects named:
1. Name: LIU YANPING, Male, 27 years old, Nationality: Chinese, Occupation: Uncertain
2-Name: LI ZHANWU, Male, 28 years old, Nationality Chinese, Occupation: Car mechanic

Military police investigated and found that the two suspects had kept a white metal necklace, a gemstone necklace, some precious rings, and a pair of white metal earrings with gems, all of which were marked as stolen items from the robbery on September 05, 2022, and have now been returned to the original owner.

In addition, the military police seized evidence related to other crimes committed by the two suspects, including: 1 white Highlander car, license plate Phnom Penh 2AG-9838, 1 red metal welding post, and some other materials, including a mobile phone, and also a large package of photos showing stolen jewellery, not yet found.
Despite the large amount of evidence seized by the police, the two Chinese nationals still refused to admit any wrongdoing, denying that they knew anything.
Finally, the competent authorities of the Office of Criminal Investigation of the Phnom Penh Municipal Gendarmerie have prepared a case which will send the two Chinese suspects to court to be punished according to the legal procedure.
