I used to hire teachers, and I have friends who were/are still doing that. When someone applies for a job, assuming they make it onto your shortlist, you google their name, check any social media profile that comes up, etc. I'd assume that's pretty standard anywhere.
Even if this guy doesn't face criminal action- and from what I've read he 'might' be ok on that front, doesn't seem like like he actually did sleep with any students - it's hard to imagine any half-decent school, anywhere in the world, hiring him in the future. Google will haunt him for the rest of his life.

You’re a rocket scientist? That’s 4 years Bachelors, plus 3 years Masters and then 6 years PhD.angsta wrote:Because there was no demand for rocket scientists when I was out there and teaching was the next best thing.
Demand for rocket scientists is crazy high. Every space and flight program worldwide wants them.
Median salary is 100K plus.
Why in the blazes are you teaching?
You’re wasting your years of education and valuable talents.

The amount of rocket scientists that turn to teaching Engrish is surprisingly high. ACE and HOE probably employ more rocket scientists than NASA.simon43 wrote: ↑Thu Oct 13, 2022 12:22 pmWait! This isn't really to spy on the teacher - it is typically used where 2 kids fight or a kid is injured in some accidental way, and the CCTV can show the parents what actually happened. I had a case where a 6 year old girl tripped and faceplanted on the hard floor in my class - the parents were shown the video and were 'happy' that it was an accident.

The guy who owned Bohr's Books was a nuclear physicist who studied in the USSR but similarly couldn't get a job in his field in Cambodia.
Silence, exile, and cunning.

I worked 60 hour weeks in a specialized field, at home, and was always broke.
Got to Cambodia, qualifications weren't recognized, so did very little, and actually thrived.
Never financially embarrassed, with enough cash to do whatever I wanted, for the entire fortnite that I was there.
I actually lived with a couple of blonde, Swedish backpackers. They were good blokes.

I also worked as a rocket scientist in the UK and mainland Europe 7 years at college/university, salary was about $150,000. when I moved to live in Thailand (health reasons - I have aspergillosis lung disease), there was a great position to head up the newly-established Thai Space organisation. "Sorry, no can do - you are not Thai" was their reply!newkidontheblock wrote: ↑Fri Oct 14, 2022 4:29 amYou’re a rocket scientist? I was thinking I'd move to SE Asia somewhere and be a rocket scientist too but if the job market is that difficult to break into I guess I'll have to be either a porn star or male model instead. Or maybe an astronaut.

I hear there's an opening in Phnom Penh for a social media influencer who doesn't mind dressing in a rainbow-colored clown suit. That's sort of like a male model.Random Dude wrote: ↑Sun Oct 16, 2022 8:22 am I was thinking I'd move to SE Asia somewhere and be a rocket scientist too but if the job market is that difficult to break into I guess I'll have to be either a porn star or male model instead. The last one left to pursue an opening related to porn, or, so I heard.

Well, the thing is I'm not very good at figuring out how to use cameras and the interwebs, and my male modeling career hasn't exactly taken off where I am - they keep telling me when they need someone who looks like a sasquatch they'll call me but I haven't heard back from them yet, maybe they lost my number or something.Username Taken wrote: ↑Sun Oct 16, 2022 9:06 amI hear there's an opening in Phnom Penh for a social media influencer who doesn't mind dressing in a rainbow-colored clown suit. I think I'll just hold out for the astronaut job.

I have the impression that they prefer scientists of all kinds to come from Germany like Werner von Braun did. So if you're not from there, just try to pick up a German accent and I'm sure you'll be easily hired anywhere in the ASEAN region. Even, if only as an English teacher.
