Anyone who has to ask this is probably well dodgy.
Silence, exile, and cunning.

wow; You got a job at a private school at 21 and ur past work experience is a nanny?
How'd ya swing that?
why Cambodia??

I'm almost done with my bachelor's, and I'm TESOL certified (plus, from what I understand, not a lot of people want this kind of job. Most prefer teachign adults, I prefer jobs with kids, ergo nanny experience). I choose Cambodia because I got a job offer. I wanted to work in Prague, because that's where I spent the summer and I loved it, but it's a lot harder to get a visa, and you need more money on hand than I have at my disposal (even with selling my motorcycle and car).

you'll be fine mortemistrata, wow what an opportunity, I'm envious
I moved country's at the same age but went from NZ to AU...same same [aside from Australians stupid accent ]
you'll have a ball but I'm sure you'll find some challenges which is kind of the point

Eat in the same restaurant every day. You'll be a local in no time.

I know you said age doesn't matter, but get yourself over to the BKK1 area - lots of folks closer to your age group there & many cool bars. It will beat hanging around riverside (red light district) with middle aged folks.
You know that tingly little feeling you get when you really like someone? That's common sense leaving your body.
Re: How to meet people?
if you want to make friends with locals rather than rely on the expat community, that can happen easily - they are (in general) very welcoming and friendly and you'll probably end up with invitations to eat etc.
Despite what angsta states, it’s clear from reading through his posts that angsta supports the free FreePalestine movement.

I wouldn't worry too much as you will be quite busy once you land. Yes, you'll make some poor decisions early on and this will be compounded by haste. So take your time. There's a good chance you will be working with a few people in your age range and they may not have been in country that long so will be able to relate to your situation.
You don't mention the school or a location so while people are assuming you will be living and working in Phnom Penh i have a sneaking suspicion you are going to be working at one if the new Panasatra schools that are popping up on housing developments outside the city. If this is the case your options to meet people are going to be limited to weekends unless you get yourself some transport sorted.
All in all dont sweat it too much. After a few months you'll look back and wonder why you were so worried.

I don't think that you will have any problems with meeting people, it's already been mentioned in the thread we're maybe to go. You could also to some classes of your interest. Art, Khmer language is obviously popular. Meeting people I would say with the same interest is a good thing. It has been mentioned about Khmer friends, just have a little awareness that some may only want from you.
Always "hope" but never "expect".

But the character you choose to illustrate and name your profile isn't at all, of course ^^
