Buying Thai Baht - here or there?

Thailand is Cambodia's neighbor to the West, and this forum is dedicated to Thai news, stories, reviews, blogs, videos, Thai people and anything else related to the country. A lot of expats have both lived and worked in Cambodia and Thailand, and this area is a place to discuss all aspects of life in Thailand and what's going on there. Most topics are about Bangkok and Pattaya because of their larger populations of expatriates and tourists in those cities, but this is for all things Thai.

Buying Thai Baht - here or there?

Post by Doc67 »

What's the rate for USD/THB is Bangkok at the moment?

For that matter, what's the rate here? Does anyone know which is usually better?

I usually use the guy in 136, near Central Market just behind the old ABA branch, he's usually pretty good.

Can't imagine you can get THB cheaper here than in Thailand.

Current rate in Thailand is 36.60 THB for 1 USD if you have crisp 100 USD notes. Slightly less for smaller denominations.

In a nation run by swine, all pigs are upward-mobile and the rest of us are fucked until we can put our acts together: not necessarily to win, but mainly to keep from losing completely. HST

VASU Exchange on Sukhumvit 7 typically give you better rates then posted on the internet. Super Rich has more locations throughout Bangkok, even a few on the BTS line, and is always comparable to VASU.

I can't imagine getting a better rate than 'in country' for a currency.

Looks like it's crispy $100's and take them there.

(Will still need some for the taxi from the airport, so looks like I'm gonna have to find out the rate here anyway)

Do you still need to show your passport when changing money?

When I was there last month the Super Rich counter was open at Swampy .... Best to check their hours though, the airport was empty both times I went through.
