Buying Thai Baht - here or there?

Thailand is Cambodia's neighbor to the West, and this forum is dedicated to Thai news, stories, reviews, blogs, videos, Thai people and anything else related to the country. A lot of expats have both lived and worked in Cambodia and Thailand, and this area is a place to discuss all aspects of life in Thailand and what's going on there. Most topics are about Bangkok and Pattaya because of their larger populations of expatriates and tourists in those cities, but this is for all things Thai.

For that matter, what's the rate here? Does anyone know which is usually better?

I usually use the guy in 136, near Central Market just behind the old ABA branch, he's usually pretty good.
the shop you quote cahnged staff! B/F Covid there was a friendly girl at the counter and an old man (boss). Nowadays unfriendly people and you have to ask BEFORE what the rate is.
BTW if you buy Baht in KOW you get a better rate

Have you compared any Thai bank XRates with, for example, this ABA Bank Xchange rate?

https://www.ababank.com/en/forex-exchange/

One needs to compare like with like.

Please understand that Bank XRates are the Wholesale rate and that the Retail rate will be slightly less favorable.

(Will still need some for the taxi from the airport, so looks like I'm gonna have to find out the rate here anyway)

Do you still need to show your passport when changing money?
Yes.

When I was there last month the Super Rich counter was open at Swampy .... Best to check their hours though, the airport was empty both times I went through.
Different branches, different rates. The Ratchadamri branch (Pratunam) offers the published rates, other branches generally offer slightly less, the one at the airport less than those.

I'm a fan of Vasu, as noted above, at the corner of Sukhumvit and Suk Soi 7. Right under the Nana BTS Station. Here are their latest rates:

http://www.vasuexchange.com

Also, at Swampy Airport, on the downtown train level -- one below the luggage/customs floor -- are more exchange kiosks, although not all were open last May. Might check the muslim currency kiosk, if they're open. There's a Kasikorn Bank there too, though they're pretty stingy.

And yes, you need your passport for all exchanges in Thailand.

Isn't that the one where your nearly on the footpath, just seperated by some metal fence? If yes, I prefer Super rich when changing serious amounts. Your inside, and can check the surroundings before leaving.

@Suvarnabhumi there used to quite a few exchange boots at the railway level offering a decent rate. Last time I was there (last Sunday) only one was open and their rates were sh#t.

Check the SuperRich exchange rates online and you'll notice that the spread for USD ($50 and $100 notes in particular) is incredibly low (0.04 THB per USD right now), so to me at least, it's doubtful that you could do better buying THB anywhere else.

Is there any problem with old 1000THB notes? I am about to buy more from PP but need to know if old notes are a problem.

Thanks guys...
