Dam Collapse Causes Flooding

Post by CEOCambodiaNews »

Cambodia News (Banteay Meanchey): On 12 September 2022, the O'Sandan Dam, which was in the middle of construction, collapsed at 12 midnight, causing water to flow into the Prek Soeur diversion, making it impossible for people to travel. The dam is located in Mak Khlou village, Prey Khpos commune, Bavel district.
Residents near the O'Sandan construction site confirmed that collapse was due to heavy flooding. Major transportation were halted especially vehicles transporting rice crops to other provinces. Extreme levels of flood danger were announced in at least two places on the road. Residents are asking the authorities to help monitor situations regarding flooding, landslides, roads, the temporary dam, and also to build a new drainage nearby.
Chea Ty, chief of Soeur commune stated that the Prek Soeur diversion is a road from the Soeur Commune, Mongkul Borei District to the Malai District which is an important road for farmers to transport their agricultural products. The floods have currently made it impossible for people to travel back and forth or to transport agricultural products.
