New UK PM results

Yeah, that place out 'there'. Anything not really Cambodia related should go here.

Remember, she only managed 50 votes out of 357 (14%) in the first round and came 3rd. She continued to come 3rd consistently behind Sunak (1st) and Penny Mourdant who came 2nd in every round and would of made a better PM, although the bar is so low that isn't saying much.

It was only until round 5, the final one before the last two were sent to the party membership, when the calculations were made and sufficient numbers of Sunak supporters voted for Truss and it was bye bye Penny Mourdant. The polling suggested Sunak had zero chance of beating Mourdant and only a slight chance of beating Truss. Despite idiotic policy statements made by Truss during the hustings, one that needed reversing 24 hours later, she still managed to beat Sunak.

It seems that being married to a women who is Indian and her Indian family are worth billions and keeping a US Green Card in his back pocket was just too much for the party. Or maybe they still yearn for another Margaret Thatcher.

Now the country is stuck with Truss, for how long nobody knows. Good luck with that...

We are going to have to take notice of your opinion more often as it seems like your crystal ball is working quite well. Is Boris THE man for the job.

Nah, a broken clock is right twice a day! :D

Boris can't come back, he was effectively sacked for gross misconduct, namely compulsive lying which is bad, and getting caught out which is worse. He actually won a no confidence vote (211-148) but that wasn't enough and went because his cabinet, beginning with Sunak, started to resign en masse, and that was the end. He was a joke on the international stage and the UK urgently needs someone serious. So, I think he is out of the running, but that doesn't mean he won't have fun by pretending he is running. They will probably block him in some way.

Also, there is a UK Covid enquiry just starting. It's still in the weeds for the time being but damning evidence will be leaked as it progresses and none of the people in charge at the time will want to be in office to face that music.

If Johnson were to regain control, he would likely lose at the next election in 2 years, so what is the point? He has been spending the last few months working out how to make a pile of cash in the next 2 years, and the offers are probably already in - so why wait? And why be around when that enquiry starts revealing the full scale of the corruption and ineptitude of the government's actions during that time?

Factor in out-of-control inflation, the cost of living crisis and interest rates heading too 5%, the next 2 years are going to be brutal so being in charge is a poisoned chalice. I can't see Johnson enjoying that much and remember, Boris is only in politics for Boris.

The only sensible choice for PM in either Sunak or Mordaunt. Sunak as PM and Mordaunt as Foreign Secretary could work and that is widely touted as the likely outcome; see below.

However, I think Mordaunt would become a better PM, a battle-axe in waiting ready to knock them into shape, and Sunak as Foreign Secretary which is better suited to him with his £500 suede Prada loafers and his reputation of being the vainest man in parliament. Jetting around foreign capitals, getting the red-carpet treatment and with very little media attention compared to other Secretaries of State, this is a better fit for him. It's all politicians dream job, other than PM.

I would have Hunt as PM in a heartbeat, but he has got an important job as Chancellor, we can't have another one installed, I don't think Sunak want's the job back for the above reasons and Mordaunt as F.S. is a waste.

At least the Tories have realised the stuck-up snobs and golf club bores that dominate their membership make terrible decisions - Johnson over Hunt and Truss over Sunak - that's why this election is being stitched up in-house.

But... in Tory party leadership contests, favourites never win - Sunak - and assassins never wear the crown - Sunak again, as he was Johnson's assassin. On that basis, Mordaunt as PM, Hunt staying put and Sunak as FS. That's a good fit and is my prediction*.

Two years is eons in Politics and maybe they can scrape another win, but I doubt it. So do they...

You got that right. 135,000 Quid for a speech in front of insurance brokers last week and supposedly another million pounds for his memoirs in November.

Just make the cabbage PM

It's already seen off Truss, just pickle it in a bottle of Ararat Dvin brandy and Britain will have it's finest PM since Churchill

Haha. It will probably get more votes than Boris. It will certainly be more honest.

Yes, Truss and Boris can both claim taxpayers money for life as ex-PMs. Seems there is no minimum term, and obviously, there are no further requirements, such as providing an efficient service to the UK while in office.

Liz Truss’s entitlement to ex-PMs’ £115,000 annual grant sparks anger
Truss can claim the funding under the public duty costs allowance (PDCA), which was introduced by the then cabinet secretary, Sir Robin Butler, after Margaret Thatcher’s resignation. Government guidance states that the PDCA was introduced to assist former prime ministers still active in public life.

The former prime ministers are entitled to claim for necessary office and secretarial costs arising from their special position in public life. In 2020-21 John Major and Tony Blair claimed the maximum allowance; Gordon Brown claimed £114,712; David Cameron claimed £113,423 and Theresa May £57,832.

Politician is a way overpaid job in many countries. We always complain about african or other cleptocrats when we have a similar problem here. They just steal in different styles.
