Miss Grand Cambodia organisers apologise after stereotyping Poipet and Bavet as ‘Casino Cities’

The organisers of the Miss Grand Cambodia pageant have apologised after an ill-advised television presentation appeared to classify the cities of Poipet and Bavet as gambling hotspots.


Mohahang Production, organisers of the beauty pageant, have apologised and issued a statement saying ‘After the show of Poipet and Bavet in the pageant, the national pageant will be held on Wednesday, August 24, 2022, broadcast from the official page of the program (Miss Grand Cambodia).

With a lot of criticism and dissatisfaction with these two cities ‘ representative sets, therefore, we accept all the criticism of the Cambodian people who are dissatisfied with these two cities’ productions.

We have decided to remove these two sets from the National Representative Contest of the Great Miss Cambodia 2022 and apologize to the Cambodian people both at home and abroad, especially the Cambodian People’s Authority and people living in Poipet city in Svay Rieng province and Bavet city in Banteay Meanchey province.

The company has no intention of discrediting the people living in the two cities.’

Social media commentators welcomed the apology, but chided the company, with comments like:

‘Change is a good thing, but next time think long, don’t embarrass our nation with our lack of consideration, don’t apologize, don’t change without guilt, take your dignity as a joke.’ and ‘I don’t have any comments, just want to say that if you don’t help the nation, don’t take the nation to cheap price with your dog brain.’

More scandal at Miss Grand Cambodia:
Miss Grand Cambodia is beset with scandals this year. Cambodian citizens, in particular the inhabitants of Stung Treng, are up in arms over the daringly erotic dress worn by Miss Stung Treng at the pageant, and they demand an apology to Stung Treng province in the name of Cambodian womanhood.

In order to restore the honor of Stung Treng province, Mahahang Production must make a public apology to the people in Stung Treng province and make immediate adjustments.

Provincial authorities issue official complaint after ‘erotic’ costume depicting Stung Treng Province shown in Miss Grand Cambodia 2022 presentation

Amidst an outpouring of condemnation on social media over the costume of a scantily clad woman representing Stung Treng Province in a recent presentation of Miss Grand Cambodia 2022, provincial authorities have launched an official complaint.

In the presentation, broadcast and widely disseminated on the 24th of August via the Miss Grand Cambodia 2022 facebook page and other media outlets, a woman – partially revealing both her breasts and genital area – was displayed as being a representative of Stung Treng Province.
