Cambodia News, (Svay Rieng Province): A 7-year-old girl was sent by her family to a Phnom Penh hospital for treatment by ambulance, after being stung by bees all over her head and body. However, the girl died on the way, and the family claim that the Svay Rieng doctors were negligent.

Sources said that at 4:30 pm on August 22, 2022, a girl named Thoeun Chantha rode her bicycle to visit the fields with her grandfather, who went to herd cows at a lake about 200 meters from the house.
The young girl was riding her bicycle to the lake to see her grandfather, when a strong gust of wind blew a beehive off the top of a palm tree as she rode past. The nest hit the ground next to her, and the angry bees flew out of the nest and attacked the girl.

The girl was severely stung and she ran to her grandfather calling for help, and there was panic throughout the village as she was rushed to Svay Rieng Provincial Referral Hospital, and then due to the seriousness of her injuries, she was sent to Phnom Penh for emergency treatment, but unfortunately she died in the ambulance.

According to the Svay Rieng doctors, they did what they could to save the girl's life, but the venom of the bee-stings had attacked her vital organs, such as kidneys, brain, heart, respiratory system, causing organ failure. The doctors and medical team continued to treat the girl with as much care as possible, but after more than two hours, her condition remained serious and the family insisted that she should be sent to a Phnom Penh hospital.

At 20:10, at the urging of the family, the doctors decided to send the patient by ambulance to Kantha Bopha Hospital in Phnom Penh, but it was too late to save her. The family feel that the girl might have lived if the decision was made earlier.
The girl's body was later transported by ambulance back to the family house in Svay Rieng free of charge.
RIP.

What a sad story. Not sure if ambulance transport earlier would have saved her. Cambodian ambulances don’t have much in the way of emergency care. She would have died on transport to Phnom Penh.
