Outrage Against Cambodian Flag Bikini on Social Media
August 12, 2022
Outcry over ‘Cambodia flag bikini’
Khmer Times
Cambodian social media commentators have reacted strongly against a website that appears to be selling bikinis patterned with the Cambodian flag.
The revealing item listing, sold on fashionable website Etsy, shows a model in various provocative poses modelling the bikini – which positions the national symbol of Cambodia – treasured icon Angkor Wat, which represents ‘Integrity, Justice and Heritage’ – on the model’s posterior.
The listing claims that ‘It’s too easy to fall in love with this Cambodian bikini set. Removable pads and its double-layer make it comfy to wear all day by the pool or at the beach.’
Outraged social media commentators have railed against the disrespectful item, demanding that it is removed for sale from the website and describing it as a ‘grave insult to Cambodia’
Other commentators have demanded that the ‘website be deleted‘*.
It is now expected that the relevant Ministry will intervene in seeking action on what appears to be an inappropriate use of Cambodia’s flag and national symbol.

*For information, the online seller in this case is Etsy, Inc., an American(US) e-commerce company focused on handmade or vintage items and craft supplies. These items fall under a wide range of categories, including jewelry, bags, clothing, home décor and furniture, toys, art, as well as craft supplies and tool.

It seems that these cries of alarm about the latest "shocking" bikini are all a little bit too late.

The same company sells them with all sorts of different national flags. None of the others have buildings on their flags. I think the only other country with a building on the flag is Afghanistan but there's no market for bikinis there.
Silence, exile, and cunning.

You can’t buy this kind of marketing. They should get their flag out everywhere and make Cambodia a tourist destination on its own.

I’m not so sure about that.John Bingham wrote: ↑Sat Aug 13, 2022 3:44 am The same company sells them with all sorts of different national flags. None of the others have buildings on their flags. While I’ve only had a few encounters with the hidden wonders under a small selection of burkas, what was under there demonstrated that the likes of Victoria’s Secret definitely had a secret but prosperous market. Of course, I’m not going to confess to finding descendants of qajar under there.
Modesty largely requires the covering up, not the absolute denial, of… temptation.
I’d be interested to know, purely for the tome of useless info, whether they have any other offerings, such as a Paris themed bikini, with Eiffel’s tower on the front, and l’arc de triomphe in the derrière.
Or a suitably positioned Kaaba, as a renaissance of cubism? How one might position an all black Rubin’s cube to inspire lust is something they’re probably still working on.

My wife owns a Khmer flag thong we bought and purchased that in country so I guess not everyone is as nationalistic
