Nasty fire at Satahip night club

Thailand is Cambodia's neighbor to the West, and this forum is dedicated to Thai news, stories, reviews, blogs, videos, Thai people and anything else related to the country. A lot of expats have both lived and worked in Cambodia and Thailand, and this area is a place to discuss all aspects of life in Thailand and what's going on there. Most topics are about Bangkok and Pattaya because of their larger populations of expatriates and tourists in those cities, but this is for all things Thai.

Nasty fire at Satahip night club

Post by armchairlawyer »

Eyewitnesses said they heard two explosions near the DJ's booth and saw sparks that ignited soundproofing foam, and the fire spread quickly.

Any thoughts on what could have caused the explosions?

I would assume shortcuts?

I've experienced quite loud shortcuts in the past and it would make sense in the context.

Shortcuts-short circuits?

Or, badly improvised pyro-technics, which have been the cause of a few nightclub fires worldwide, over the decades.

Badly improvised pyrotechnics, highly flammable decorations, locked emergency exits (so punters can't get out without paying), and fire safety inspections that are settled with an envelope of cash.

All speculation of course, but more often than not, it is a combination of some or all of those.

First details emerge and why am I not surprised that the place had no license to operate?

"Investigators had questioned the staff and owner of the pub, eyewitnesses and the electrician who was earlier hired to repair the building’s power system, he said."

If it's an electric failure and you're that electrician that must feel pretty shit. Though not close to as shit as being on a respirator with third degree burns. Fucking hell that's just terrible.

Just a few weeks ago, an EDC electrician managed to electrocute himself working on some fairly routine equipement.
Having seen these “electricians” in action, there is little professionalism in many cases, and that is something that I’ve seen in many Asian countries.
