Sell the pricks some screws with a left-hand thread, that will screw them around. But dont sell them the metric or left-handed screwdrivers they will need, and that will really stuff them up.

Their family owned a mountain near the airport. I encouraged them to sell their portion of land.
And this is why.
China will NEVER attack ( or as you call it Liberate) Taiwan

50% of all semi conductors are made in Taiwan and, crucially, 90% of all 'advanced' semi conductors are made there. These are the ones the are used in the most advanced military equipment. Covid created a mild interuption of these and suddenly you couldn't buy a new German car without a 6 month delay. A war would absolutely crush our economies and China knows it.
If you think Ukraine with their grain and sunflower oil is causing trouble for the global supply chain, imagine if the was a breakdown of the supply of semi-conductors which are essential for everything we take for granted.
How the west had allowed itself to become so dependent of a small island off the Chinese coast that has a long standing sovereignty issues with China just shows how fucking useless all our governments are.

In dominating the fabrication of the most advanced semiconductors, the giant Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company Ltd (TSMC) has captured a technology that’s crucial to the cutting-edge digital devices and weapons of today and tomorrow. TSMC accounts for more than 90% of global output of these chips, according to industry estimates.

I just hope she grabs herself a nice juicy Whopper at the airport before takeoff. Best of luck to the old crow.

I'll second that. The government will mandate that you have to have a license to be a barber or operate a nail salon or a food stand - all for the public's "safety" and "protection". But if your a fortune 500 executive and want to pack up the factory and move to Taiwan or China or Vietnam..... nothing to see here! Just capitalism at work!
I believe the Brits would say bunch of Wankers.

To be fair, up until two or three years ago, it was looking like globalisation was kind of working and having certain countries specialising in certain goods and services that the rest of the world relied on, such as grain from Ukraine, Processors from Taiwan, Financial services from the UK, Gas from Russia, cheaply made crap from China etc, seemed to make the world a more united place, meaning there was less scope for conflict and war. It's why the EU was created. The more countries have in common, and the more they rely on each other, the less likely they are to go to war.Doc67 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 03, 2022 11:41 am 50% of all semi conductors are made in Taiwan and, crucially, 90% of all 'advanced' semi conductors are made there. Unfortunately, as has now been demonstrated, it's turned out to be a house of cards, which only takes one or two countries who don't want to play the game, to dislodge, and the whole lot comes crashing down.
In hindsight, I agree that it does now seem like a stupid idea for countries to be so reliant on each other for goods and services, especially when there is no Plan B in place when those countries can no longer be relied upon, either through their own doing or other people's.
I know that this wasn't the only reason for globalisation, but as a by-product, I do understand the reasoning and intention that was behind it.
There's always those that are intent on spoiling the party unfortunately.

I agree with you, it was a very nice idea and all things being equal it has worked out quite well. But the main thrust of my assertion was the confluence of: a.) something so critical to everything we use constantly in our societies and b.) the sourcing of it coming from a country that is under constant and increasing threat from China. They talk about food and energy security, but if computers stop working so does everything else. Every developed nation should be setting up their own supply chain, and quickly, because if the shit hits the fan it will be every man for himself.xandreu wrote: ↑Wed Aug 03, 2022 1:23 pmTo be fair, up until two or three years ago, it was looking like globalisation was kind of working and having certain countries specialising in certain goods and services that the rest of the world relied on, such as grain from Ukraine, Processors from Taiwan, Financial services from the UK, Gas from Russia, cheaply made crap from China etc, seemed to make the world a more united place, meaning there was less scope for conflict and war. If China took Taiwan it would then be in control of that supply line. In the even of them trying to take Taiwan the supply chain would end overnight. What little supply that remained would become subject to a huge bidding war and export bans.
The richest countries would get what little there is available and poor countries in places like Africa and South America would go dark, as the power systems and everything that plugs into them starts failing and can't be repaired.
And then we have Nancy Pelosi popping in for lunch and sticking two fingers up to China. It is so reckless.

That's the easy part. Our elites wanted to increase their profits. The other 98% of us can fuck off.
