Free Angkor Temple Visits

Post by hdgh29 »

I read something on a Facebook group (Cambodia Travel) about how foreigners who have lived continuously in Cambodia for two or more years can now have free entry to the temples in the Angkor area, including the big one. I havent been able to find anything else to corroborate this - anyone hear anything about it?

That would be nice, if true.

The PM made a statement in a speech a couple days ago, but the Ministry of Tourism haven't published an official directive with details yet.

He said that all foreigners who have been resident for 2 years can enter for free... so as long as your Visa Extensions of Stay (A, B, C, EB, ER, ES, etc.) indicate that you have been here at least 2 years, then you are classed as resident in Cambodia for 2 years, so should qualify.

I am sure full details will be made clear once the directive is released.

Someone on FB tried that and got turned back by the ticket police. But they only start at 5am so if you're an early bird you could get in the zone, I guess.

always been able to get in the zone as their public roads, but you need a ticket to enter each temple complex

pre covid, numerous times i have driven in for sunset/sunrise photography and never paid for a ticket as never entered a temple

They cracked down on that years ago. You cannot get in now without a ticket, even if you tell them you will stay on the roads. My house is past the old ticket gate and I got stopped every time when I was back in SR a couple of weeks ago.

This is correct. The ticket police will flag down foreigners trying to enter the zone without a ticket. It's a shame because it's beautiful in there and I'd just like to ride my bike around the roads, without even entering any of the temples.

Choices:

1. Brown face; or
2. Go before 5am.
