Phnom Penh: Sunway Hotel, located adjacent to US embassy and Wat Phnom. I don't remember exactly the rate in early May but it was in the area of $40/nite. Rooms very modern and staff friendly. Loved the restaurant. Good location.

Siem Reap: Sonalong Boutique Village and Resort. Khmer owned. Located on Street 27 just half block east of Wat Bo Road (just 1 street north of 7 Makara St. Like staying in a jungly-garden. Realistic pics on the website: www.sonalongvillage.com, but you can no longer book through the site unless that has changed recently. Suggest you email hotel directly for rates/availability: [email protected]. I know there are plans to redo the website but don't know where that's at. Decent sized swimming pool which was great for morning swim. Ate fresh mangos and breadfruit from trees growing on the property. Fabulously friendly staff. I think I paid in the area of $35/nite. Excellent family owned laundry across street with quick turnarounds: Seila Laundry. Amazing fish restaurant just east of the hotel where I had the best fish I had ever tasted. The restaurant doesn't look like much but it is packed with locals every nite. Menu is in Khmer only.

Hope this helps.
