Is "Emoji-Censoring" the News Even Worse Than Random Pixelation ?

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. I think the emojis change the feelings of a picture more into the narrative of the person who wrote the article. The criminals look sad because of an emoji, instead of their real faces of anger.

It just infantilises the reader. But hey, you have to have child-like naivety to believe anything written in the media here, so these emojis don't reduce the credibility of the reporting, because it has none.

The two suspects here killed a little girl in a bag-snatching attack on her mother.

Why should his face be hidden ? Shame the bastards.

For me, it depends on the crime. When it's tough looking gangster street fighters fighting each other, I can see the humorous - and therefore shameful - side of it.

But in the above post where a guy was arrested for the murder of a little girl, it's wholly inappropriate.
The difference between animals and humans is that animals would never allow the dumb ones to lead the pack.
