I think the emojis change the feelings of a picture more into the narrative of the person who wrote the article. The criminals look sad because of an emoji, instead of their real faces of anger.

It just infantilises the reader. But hey, you have to have child-like naivety to believe anything written in the media here, so these emojis don't reduce the credibility of the reporting, because it has none.

For me, it depends on the crime. When it's tough looking gangster street fighters fighting each other, I can see the humorous - and therefore shameful - side of it.
But in the above post where a guy was arrested for the murder of a little girl, it's wholly inappropriate.

Phnom Penh: On February 12, 2023, at around 15:30 pm, the Judicial Police Force of Tuol Kork Police Inspectorate searched and arrested a suspect for intentionally causing damage,( throwing stones and breaking a car windshield), on February 11, 2023, at around 8:45 in the morning.
Suspect's name is Seth Sovannareach, alias Seng, male, Khmer nationality, occupation: student, living in a house with no number, Khan Por Senchey, Phnom Penh. He tested negative for drugs, but police have confiscated his motorbike.
Victims name: Kuon Van Thuon, Male, 39 years old, Occupation: Trader, living in Tuol Kork.
Answers - up to you to choose from:
Answer 1 : "Please give me back my bike, I promise I won't do that again."
Answer 2: If you arrest him today you will ruin his brilliant career as a brain surgeon.
