Visa & Passport Renewal
Re: Visa & Passport Renewal
Not really, just can’t travel. In order to renew a US passport the old one has to be sent in at the same time as application in order to receive a new one.Kammekor wrote: ↑Thu Jul 14, 2022 11:35 amThat would be a serious complication wouldn't it?tightenupvolume1 wrote: ↑Thu Jul 14, 2022 11:33 am All my old passports have the corners cut out. I seem to remember when I re -newed them I had to send the old one along with the application ?

Re: Visa & Passport Renewal
Normally, visas in the old passport would remain valid for their own specified time, irrespective of the passport expiry date. You just need to carry both passports, expired and current, but of the same nationality.
That’s certainly how it’s been for me for several countries. My UK passport is abut to run out of available pages, so I shall have another passport running parallel.
Cancelled passports are cropped, but I think expired passports simply remain in your possession.

Re: Visa & Passport Renewal
I know the US stopped doing it, but are you allowed to add extra pages into an existing passport?

Re: Visa & Passport Renewal
They used to do it for US passports, but they stopped issuing them a few years back. I will say this, when overseas, getting a new US passport is quick, I have read 10 business days. When doing it in the US, unless you pay extra for expedited service, it takes over a month, and you get the old/cancelled one back a few weeks after receiving the new one.Freightdog wrote: ↑Thu Jul 14, 2022 12:08 pmI vaguely recall- one time only. But only as part of travel back, in limited/unforeseen circumstances. Not as part of advanced planning.
Re: Visa & Passport Renewal
You must have at least 6 months validity remaining on your passport from the date your new Visa EOS will expire, and a minimum of 2x blank VISA pages, therefore you are only eligible to obtainDoc67 wrote: ↑Thu Jul 14, 2022 10:39 am Q1: Will a current visa in my old passport carry forward to my new passport or is the remaining term of the visa lost?
Your Visa EOS remains valid until the date of expiry, you need to travel with and present both cancelled & new passports to Cambodian Immigration upon exit/entry, Immigration will place entry/exit stamps in your new passport. When you apply for your new EOS, you also need to submit both old and new passports, new EOS will be placed in new passport.
Q2: If the visa is transferable, what is the procedure and is this something an agent can deal with or does it require a personal visit to a government office?
You cannot transfer your Visa EOS to new passport, as above, you need to travel with and present both cancelled & new passports to Cambodian Immigration.
1x 6 month EOS (Feb 23),
plus 1x 3 month EOS (May 23),
plus 2x 1 month EOS's (Jul 23) in your current passport
Jan 2024 - 6 months = Jul 2023
So in summary... apply for 6 month EOS, once new passport received travel with both, when you apply for next EOS submit both passports, easy peasy.

Re: Visa & Passport Renewal
US stopped adding blank pages Jan 1 2016
US passports issued overseas turn around time is around 14 days and they ONLY issue 64 page book, I had 1 passport issued in the states, that was back in 1968
In the states 1 month would be lucky to get a new one, usually its around 6-8 weeks or u pay extra
And we can get a 2nd passport quite easy, you just apply for it an give a reason why u need 2 ( travel frequently and need get multiple visa's is the best reason) I had 2 back in the mid to late 80's when i was travelling alot
I always get a new passport when i get down to 3 blank pages, MY 10 year passports never get beyond 6 years of use since the late 70's
My advice to anyone is dont get down to less than 18 months validity an dont get down to less than 3 blank pages
Carrying 2 passports is not a big deal and when u have some visa's valid for 10 years ( India & Australia for Americans are 2) u will always carry 2
In a nation run by swine, all pigs are upward-mobile and the rest of us are fucked until we can put our acts together: not necessarily to win, but mainly to keep from losing completely. HST
Re: Visa & Passport Renewal
I do not doubt anything you say concerning these issues and I feel silly asking this. I have read that you need at least 6 months of validity left in order to apply for a visa extension, but I believe you are saying that you need at least 1 1/2 years of validity remaining in order to apply for a 1 year extension? Or am I misunderstanding what you are saying?PSD-Kiwi wrote: ↑Thu Jul 14, 2022 12:32 pmYou must have at least 6 months validity remaining on your passport from the date your new Visa EOS will expire, and a minimum of 2x blank VISA pages, therefore you are only eligible to obtainDoc67 wrote: ↑Thu Jul 14, 2022 10:39 am Q1: Will a current visa in my old passport carry forward to my new passport or is the remaining term of the visa lost?

Re: Visa & Passport Renewal
https://www.gov.uk/overseas-passports You keep your old passport but you can't use it for travel. The visa in it continues to be valid. I renewed mine early purely because of the 6 month rule, and I'm not sure how it works if your passport is valid for more than 10 years (ie you had up to 9 months remaining validity transferred from the previous passport). Some countries only count validity as 10 years from date of issue.
When you collect your new passport from VFS they will cut one corner off the cover of the old one. There is a thicker US passport available, just costs a bit more.

Re: Visa & Passport Renewal
There is no additional cost for the 52-page US Passport, in fact the larger paged passport is automatic now when processed through the Embassy while overseas.Bluenose wrote: ↑Thu Jul 14, 2022 1:17 pm https://www.gov.uk/overseas-passports You keep your old passport but you can't use it for travel.
