What do expats do to pass their time in Phnom Penh
Re: What do expats do to pass their time in Phnom Penh
Being active in Phnom Penh will take quite an effort, maybe Phnom Penh isn't the most suitable place for you in Cambodia?Newinkow wrote: ↑Sat Jul 09, 2022 3:25 am Hi.
I recently retired and plan on spending 6 months of the year in KoW (Phnom Penh). I'm not a big drinker but do enjoy a puff or two, not into the hard stuff. I have already done two 6 months trips to KoW pre-covid-19. I have already done all the tourist attractions in Phnom Penh: Killing Field, S21, Palace, Museum, and Diamond Island. I have already done Siem Reap/Angkor Wat and Kampot/Kep. No real desire to see Sihanoukville from what I have read. Not into mass Chinese or casinos. I'm not really into the girly bar scene either.
What is there to do in Phnom Penh to pass the time away? I play a lot of Pickleball here in Canada. Is there anywhere to play Pickleball in PP? Is there any sporting activities to participate in besides soccer or golf. Are there people who meet up on a regular basis to play card games (cribbage, euchre etc), board games or to do activities?
I'm hoping to be back in November for another 6 months.
Thanks in advance.

The ones who can afford it do hobby horsing
The one's who don't just tap dance on riverside
The ones with tabs to pay try to tip toe their way out
At last that's how i remember it

Wine O'clock on st 456 and Domrei Cafe on St 200 have board games available.
Various bars have small stakes poker games. Red fox on St 136 has $20 tournaments.
Loads of sports clubs can be found on facebook. I've never heard of pickleball though.

I had to google what pickleball is
Seems easy to have fun with it, worth a dedicated place (indoor, like squash ?).
Maybe a small business idea ? Not sure if Decathlon sells the gear & ball though ?
Also, at night, in disco clubs, you can eventually discu-dance. It's a local mix of casual office chit-chat, and disco dance moves.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions.
Looked into the Cambodian Country Club. Looks a little rich for my blood.
Re: Pickleball. It's the fastest growing sports for seniors. Although it's gaining popularity with the younger demographic. Lots of older ex-tennis player have pick up the game. Lots of retirement communities in North America and Mexico have dedicated Pickleball courts. But usually the Pickleball courts are share with the tennis courts. 2 Pickleball courts can fit into one tennis court. One on each side of the tennis court with temporary Pickleball nets. Most tennis courts now have lines printed for Pickleball courts.
The game is played with a waffle ball about the size of a tennis ball. The racquet is like an over size ping pong paddle. Usually it's doubles play. The younger players or players with good mobility and stamina plays singles. I myself enjoy doubles and not built for singles.

Mart drinking. Whether or not anyone on here admits to it is immaterial. Cambodia might just be THE Mart drinking tour de force of all of Asia and that is saying something as there are well known outstanding mart drinking spots in the region.

Excuse my ignorance but what is Mart Drinking?
Is it taking up a post near a mini mart or the like and grabbing refreshments from the said establishment?
