Is Kampot Town Turning into a Red Light District ?
Re: Is Kampot Town Turning into a Red Light District ?
Not an expert on local history but afaik, the action moved across the river in the 00's and has now moved back to the old town.

Righto. Female company was mainly the local type provided in 'massage' places and few in 'girlie-bars' catering to Westerners. And have always been a few streets further away (cheaper rents). There are still a couple around like in the street between Rikitikitavi and Happy Special Pizza on the corner, on the street leading from the river to the 2000 roundabout near the Indian restaurant. Across the street of Di Pok Mohsamaki school and more can be found further away from center.johnny lightning wrote: ↑Tue Jul 19, 2022 4:43 pm What are YOU talking about? I first visited Kampot in the 90's and if you wanted female company you had to search for it quite a bit. There was nothing of the sort in the middle of town like it has now. And you can see how long your "dirty nightclub" lasted. Gone and forgotten. Go up the streets from there away from the river and there are probably more than a dozen girlie bars within a 5 minute walk. There was maybe 2 in the old market streets precovid. And no, I've nothing against girlie bars but I much preferred that area the way it was 3-4 years back.
Across the river: good dining at Amber Kampot: https://amber-kampot.com/ although not cheap https://amber-kampot.com/wp-content/upl ... e-Menu.pdf

The main problem is that the most beautiful girls (that are "visible" in any shape and form) seem to work at restaurants and mini marts. I haven't walked past even a single girlie bar where I've spotted even a single stunner. A few are okay looking, but with the vast majority, you'd need to be quite drunk or desperate to enjoy their company. Or maybe Kampot expats just have different tastes and they're being accommodated.

How about female tourists? Are there any western hippie chicks living there/passing through?
What about Japanese, Korean, Taiwanese, Thai, etc. single women?

Over the past month or so have seen more female tourists in groups on 2, 3 more in Kampot and on the beach in Kep
noticeable by their "hippie" dress and or huge backpacks
Seen no Asian tourists at all and for sure no group tourists

I noticed the same regarding backpacks. As the years go by the size and number of them seems to keep increasing. A few weeks back in Kampot and now here in Vietnam I have seen several with an enormous backpack on the back, a smaller one on the front and some even carrying a third. What the fuck is in all that? Maybe they didn't get the memos, less is more and travel light. I myself have a smallish pack that I carry on and is good for anywhere from 2-6 months.

Seen a few Korean tour buses here, also a bunch of younger (20s - 30s) western females too (two almost crashed into me at old market on their bike), a fair amount of mixed groups as well (male/female)...
I'm usually out in the mornings though, sometimes mid afternoon if it's raining and never the evening.

You will not see these mixing with barangs.

I stand corrected.John Bingham wrote: ↑Tue Jul 19, 2022 3:18 amThey didn't. That was built by Sokimex, a Cambodian company.
If I remember right the plan was to bring Chinese gamblers with boats (not to the mountain), but in Kampot, and haul them up to the Bokor resort to get wild.
