Cambodia News (Kandal): On 4 July 2022, Mr. Chantha Vandy, Deputy Inspector of Russey Keo District, Phnom Penh Municipal Police, was found dead after he shot himself with a handgun in Khsach Kandal District.


According to a preliminary report from local authorities, Mr. Chanthavandy went home and got on a motorcycle shortly afterwards. He told his mother that he had forgotten his bag in the house, so he returned to his room, and then shot himself in the head with a pistol.
Currently, the competent experts are conducting an autopsy and undertaking a futher investigation into the death.

Police Deputy Inspector kills himself over pressure of gambling debts
A shattered family is today mourning the tragic death of the Deputy Inspector of Russey Keo District, Phnom Penh, who shot himself yesterday after mounting pressure over gambling debts.

Chantha Vandy, 35, Deputy Inspector of Russey Keo District, Phnom Penh Municipal Police Commissioner, shot and killed himself in his house on July 4, at 12:30 in Kbal Koh village, Koh Oknha Tey commune, Khsach Kandal district, Kandal province.

Sources say that on July 4, 2022, at 10:00 AM, the victim drove from home to work at the Police Inspectorate, Russey Keo District, Phnom Penh until 12:20 PM, when he victim rode a motorcycle back.

He walked into his house, greeting his father in law and going upstairs.

Moments later, relatives heard the sound of a gunshot and rushed upstairs to find, tragically, that the man had shot himself.

His relatives discovered a will – and a hand-written suicide note, in which the man explained that he had borrowed money and then gambled and lost it.

The man leaves behind a wife and 2 young children.

Further information reveals that the police inspector, Chantha Vandy, had taken money from his parents-in-law and lost it all gambling online on football matches. He leaves behind a wife and two young children. RIP.
