Absent Oknha Gets 1 Year Prison Sentence

Cambodia News (Phnom Penh): On 30 June 2022, the Trial Judge of the Phnom Penh Municipal Court, Mr. Tith Sothy Porachat pronounced a verdict in absentia sentencing Mr. Oknha Lian Afril Kinin to one year imprisonment and a fine of KHR 1,000,000 (almost US$250), and to pay KHR 20,000,000 (about $5000) to the plaintiff.

Judge Sothy Borachat stated that the 44-year-old businessman Oknha Lian Afril Kinin, was charged with diverting confiscated property or collateral without authorisation in contravention of Article 397 of the Penal Code. The acts of diversion took place in Phnom Penh on 15 August 2018.

Okhna Lian Afril Kinin could not be reached for comment on the court ruling, and his present whereabouts are not known to the press.

Tycoon has jail sentence suspended

A prominent tycoon – convicted of “diverting confiscated property or object” is celebrating after he had his jail sentence suspended by Phnom Penh Municipal Court.

According to the officials of the Phnom Penh Municipal Court, on the afternoon of July 1, 2022, the trial judge of the Phnom Penh Municipal Court announced the verdict of Tycoon Lean Afril Kinin in a case of “diverting confiscated property or objects."

The verdict was ”is punishable by one year imprisonment, but the sentence is suspended and the plaintiff is compensated”
1 million riels is to be put into the national budget and 20 million riels paid to the plaintiff.
