COVID returns: PM calls for caution after new C-19 cases emerge in Cambodia
Prime Minister HE has called for caution among the public after it has been confirmed that Covid-19 cases have been reported for the first time after 52 days of no infection.
In an audio message last night, Mr HE said positive cases had just been identified by PCR test among some people who were about to leave Cambodia as well as passengers who came from abroad.
He added that rapid tests have also found more positive cases.
“While the number is low, being negligent can bring our country back to a serious situation,” Mr HE said.
“I call for everyone to be cautious by practicing the preventiive measure three Don’ts and three Dos, and go and get jabs, especially the booster shot.”

Re: COVID returns:
I know of loads of people who had COVID over the past few months. It's likely they didn't report to the authorities but then who would want to do that?
Silence, exile, and cunning.

I think the moh is sitting on a huge number of covid vax that was donated and is soon to expire. They have been urging locals to get another jab for some time now. 5m doses?

PM Re-appeals to Compatriots to Get 3rd Dose of COVID-19 Vaccinecanucklhead wrote: ↑Wed Jun 29, 2022 11:16 am I think the moh is sitting on a huge number of covid vax that was donated and is soon to expire. They have been urging locals to get another jab for some time now. 5m doses?
AKP Phnom Penh, June 27, 2022 --
Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo HE, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, has expressed his concern over the possible new outbreak of COVID-19 in the country and re-insisted his compatriots to receive the booster dose or 3rd dose of COVID-19 vaccine.
“Even though Cambodia has recorded zero new infection of COVID-19 for 51 days and no new COVID-19-related death for months, it is still important to get the 3rd shot as the pandemic has not got away from us yet,” said the Premier in a special voice message this evening.
According to Samdech Techo HE, only over 9 million people have already received the 3rd jab while 5 million others not yet. At the same time, more than 2 million people obtained the 4th dose and over 200,000 the 5th dose.
Samdech Techo HE also reaffirmed that Cambodia has enough COVID-19 vaccines to administer to its people.
The Prime Minister once again urged his compatriots of all races, religious beliefs and political tendencies to get the 3rd dose, and those who already did so to receive the 4th jab and the frontliners to obtain the 5th shot to ensure their own, family and community immunity.

Re: COVID returns:
I think the cambodians are smarter in that then most western countrys, samesame as the chinese: I am pretty sure they just give the expired vaccines to the people they need it and dont tell them, in China of course they would do that also (if necessary).canucklhead wrote: ↑Wed Jun 29, 2022 11:16 am I think the moh is sitting on a huge number of covid vax that was donated and is soon to expire. Better give an expired one then none. They laugh with the western society about expire dates. If you have a terrible headache, and you have expired aspirine in your house, do you throw it away to go to the pharmacy and buy a new one ??? But ofcourse the pharmaceutical industry hopes everyone in the world believes those expire-dates, throw away and buy new-ones !! I knever look to the expire date on food, just smell it, if it smells alright, just eat it. Unfortunaly, thats complicated with a vaccin !!
Re: COVID returns:
I don't think covid ever left, and if they did more testing, they would find more cases. Plese be careful out there.

Over 4.1 million new cases of COVID-19 reported in a week from 20 to 26 June 2022
Globally, the number of weekly cases has increased for the third consecutive week, after a declining trend since the last peak in March 2022.
During the week of 20 to 26 June 2022, over 4.1 million new cases were reported, an 18% increase as compared to the previous week. The number of new weekly deaths remained similar to that of the previous week, with over 8500 fatalities reported.
At the regional level, the number of new weekly cases increased in the Eastern Mediterranean Region (+47%), the European Region (+33%), the South-East Asia Region (+32%), and the Region of the Americas (+14%), while it decreased in the African Region (-39%) and the Western Pacific Region (-3%).
The number of new weekly deaths increased in the Eastern Mediterranean Region (+22%), the South-East Asia Region (+15%), and the Region of the Americas (+11%), while decreases were observed in the Western Pacific Region (-6%), the European Region (-5%) and the African Region (-1%).
As of 26 June 2022, over 541 million confirmed cases and over 6.3 million deaths have been reported globally.
These trends should be interpreted with caution as several countries have been progressively changing COVID-19 testing strategies, resulting in lower overall numbers of tests performed and consequently lower numbers of cases detected.
At the country level, the highest numbers of new weekly cases were reported from the United States of America (701 855 new cases; +5%), Germany (504 655 new cases; +23%), Brazil (349 791 new cases; +37%), Italy (340 012 new cases; +61%), and China (333 926 new cases; -18%).
The highest numbers of new weekly deaths were reported from the United States of America (1997 new deaths; -2%), Brazil (1313 new deaths; +37%), China (925 new deaths; -11%), the Russian Federation (429 new deaths; -3%), and Italy (355 new deaths; +5%).
In Cambodia, a lull of 52 days without new COVID-19 infections was shattered with the discovery of 10 cases on Tuesday with 2 imported cases along with 8 other locally transmitted cases. WHO/Khmer Times

Re: COVID returns:
The government had this very long period of "COVID free Cambodia", and KT ran along with it no questions asked. I thought it was a sign that they were just going to finally see the light and accept to live with it, as many people I knew had COVID during the whole farce of "celebrating six weeks of no COVID" spiel. This puts everything back in question, which is quite disappointing. I'm not sure why they're now talking about again when virtually all other countries have just accepted to live with it and move on. I understand if it's a simple message to the tune of "if you're at risk, keep your guard up", but now they're reintroducing rapid tests on arrival for those with "symptoms", which is a bit disconcerting as with a small overreaction, we could go back to square one in very little time.John Bingham wrote:I know of loads of people who had COVID over the past few months. It's all good, most people get merely a sniffle if anything at all. The vulnerable can just get yet another booster; no need for any dramatic measures
