Rising Sun

Discussions about restaurants, cafes, coffee shops or bars in Cambodia. Feel free to write any reviews you have, whether its the best burger you've had in Phnom Penh or the worse pizza in Kampot, we want to read it! Discussions about Khmer dishes are also in here, or you can leave your own. If you own a restaurant, feel free to let the expat community know about it here so that we can come check it out. Found a favorite cafe or have a place we should avoid? Tell us about it. Asian recipes & questions are always welcome.

Rising Sun

Post by Gazzy »

Is the Rising Sun closing down? Last few visits they hadn't stocked up on HP sauce and other small things. Today it looked pretty dark as I whizzed past. Would be a shame to see it go.

I was in on Saturday and the owner told me they were closing down on Tuesday. I posted this on your pies thread.
Sorry to see them go.

That's a shame, I used to go there quite a bit.

I don't know when they first opened, but when I was living in Koh Kong and would visit Phnom Penh I would always call in for a meal or two, that would have started back around 7 years ago.

It felt like a genuine pub grub feel, back then. May the memories live on.

Their breaded fish and chips were the best I've had in Cambodia. Very large portions. Good place to sit outside and watch life on 178 go by. RIP Rising Sun.

Sad to see they survived the quarantine but can't hang on.
I have not noticed any surge of western tourists returning.

Sad news. I enjoyed going there for some pub grub whenever I happened to be in town.

The covid had effects on many businesses, but for a business that specialises in the food it did, and like mentioned relied on the tourist trade returning. I think they did well to carry on throughout the covid, more so when they were one of the few that still paid full rent.
