Austrian man catches drug-resistant strain of STI
Re: Austrian man catches drug-resistant strain of STI
Syphilis is perfectly curable, assuming you diagnose it fast enough... The latter is quite an issue because syphilis is often called 'the great pretender', showing symptoms of all kind of different diseases.
Re: Austrian man catches drug-resistant strain of STI
It's a bit of 'click bait news', because after this 'amoxicillin-clavulanic acid [Augmentin, readily available all around the world at low prices]' there's some IV-antibiotics which are even more effective but not available over the counter because only clinics can administer them. Still worrisome though, the plain old 'amoxicillin' evolved into a bamboo stick after serving as a howitzer for decades.

Well I'd prefer not to get to that stage.

Just a light reminder
Spoiler:
Re: Austrian man catches drug-resistant strain of STI
Oh yes, the first picture looks terrible, but you know what? It will heal within 2-3 weeks, whether you take antibiotics or not, and syphilis will go dormant in your body while slowly taking things over over years, just to surprise you a decade, or two, later. By then, most have forgotten about the lesion on their penis a decade or more ago (women will never have noted it visually....) and finding the real cause will be challenging and expensive.
Long story short. If you have a lesion anywhere on your body after unprotected sex, check for syphilis. If you ever had syphilis you probably will know you need to take different measures because you will test positive for life, then go for titer tests.
And for all the fellow forum members thinking the obvious.... No, I've been never tested positive for syphilis. But I've experienced close ones walking the road, so I'm a kind of self-taught guy on this
Never assume you're safe, syphilis is alive and kicking in Cambodia and without the right & timely treatment it's fatal

Whopping 98% having multiple partners admit they do not use condoms during intercourse
Amid warnings about possible threats of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) like super gonorrhea, a shocking survey report has revealed that a whopping 98% of men and women who have multiple partners are not interested in using condoms during sex in the country.
Ly Sovann, director of Centres for Disease Control and Prevention of Ministry of Health, said yesterday, “Men and women who have multiple sex partners must be cautious over the super gonorrhea diseases that may harm their partners, family, and spread rapidly.”
“The virus was silent during Covid-19 lockdown as people were afraid to have sex with various partners. However, circumstances have changed now,” he warned.
According to a Ministry of Health report 2021-2022, of the 20,000 participated in the survey, only 1% of women aged 15-49 said they had two or more sexual partners while the rate was 2% among men. Meanwhile, 98% of the men and women having multiple partners said they do not use condoms. Only 2% said they go for protected sex.
On Wednesday, the UK-based the dailymail.co.uk website revealed that an unidentified man, in his 50s, got infected with super gonorrhea after having unprotected sex with a prostitute while on holiday in Cambodia in April.
Sovann pointed out that prostitutes do not know whether a customer or themselves are positive for the super gonorrhea disease or another virus of STDs.
“I am very disappointed that most of the people are having sex without protection despite knowing that condoms are the main shield against STDs,” he said.
“We have created the capacity of STDs section in the state hospitals across the country in order to solve the concerns of those who suspected themselves with any sexual infectious diseases, in particular gonorrhea,” Sovann said.
“We are working with the World Health Organization with greater attention on super gonorrhea with antibiotics that cause extensively drug-resistant,” he added.
“We had been testing and collecting samples of super gonorrhea from various patients, yet haven’t found any cases of samples that were extensively drug-resistant or untreatable,” he noted.
Sovann pointed out that the ministry is working with relevant local health officials to track the performance of the virus in the community, while also cooperating with global scientists to deal with the virus effectively too.
World Health Organization representative to Cambodia Dr Li Ailan said that sexually transmitted infections (STIs) are common around the world, and there is nothing to be ashamed about.
“It is very important to always practice safe sex (using a condom) and to see a medical professional if you experience any symptoms of illness such as genital discharge and burning with urination,” she pointed out.
“Untreated infection may lead to serious reproductive health complications for both men and women. If you believe you have any symptoms, please see a health professional,” she said.
