sim card & Data options

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. Post by pokerman »

should I just get a Sim card and data package there or do I have better options outside

The free SIM cards are the airport don't allow you to use promotions, like 'exchanging money'. Buy one in town.

Not to hijack, but what’s the best service provider for long term use?

I personally use Cellcard since 2015 and I'm happy with them.

Depends on where you use it. Metfone is King in the Boonies, Smart in the main centers. Where I live the only 4G available is from Metfone.

I have a Smart sim, cost me $12 but used one of the places that has lists of numbers that you can pick one you like from. I use ThomMorng which is $1 a week and if you don't actually make many on-network calls will give you around 7GB a week.
One thing though if you're not living here though, you need to check how long you can go without using/topping up the sim before your number is suspended and released for re-issue to a new user

I setup a smart e-sim on my iPhone, recently. By far the easiest thing so far.

But I still have a cell card sim in my iPad as it’s the better coverage in our bit of the province.

I looked online but the websites were vague. Does either Smart or Cellcard have unlimited monthly plans, mainly for data, or are they just pay as you go? I’ve always just used my home plan when going to Thailand, which gave free roaming. Unfortunately can’t use them because they will cut off service after being out of the country for over 90 days.
