You titled the thread "Motorbike for my girl ... your advice ?" - and then get sarky when somebody has the temerity to offer . . . advice?CamboMan wrote: ↑Wed Jun 15, 2022 3:37 pmI am only seeking a response to the question I ask, not your commentaries on something I did not ask. Thank YouJerry Atrick wrote: ↑Wed Jun 15, 2022 2:36 pmWhatever she wants lol - she won't be happy with anything else
I would suggest buying her nothing and seeing how long she sticks around without expensive gifts

There were only two as of last month, but I saw them because the boss of the place I was working for wanted a new bike and I was helping him look.Kammekor wrote: ↑Wed Jun 15, 2022 5:39 pmAre you 100% sure? That would be a reason for me to visit Kampot. I've tried Ratanakiri, Kompong Cham, Kratie & Phnom Penh and miserably failed to find one. My current one (9 years old) is starting to show some wear & tear.
But you don't need to go through Honda to get one. Truthfully when I was in Phnom Penh I found the dealerships more or less useless after the 1st year was up. Even our new Dream which had the cylinder head crack on it got sent out to one of those side shops for repairs so, I just avoid the main dealer for anything other than oil changes or belt services now.
EDIT: Actually now that I think about it, I think I'm thinking about the new 110 Wave and you're thinking the 125 Wave/Future. If you mean the the 125, yeah they're only brought in as grey market imports, but still decent bikes though (I had one from Vietnam, workers put almost 70,000 km on it and it held up great). Also had a disk brake 110 Wave for 5 years with only minor problems. Would buy another if I had money and planned staying here a while, it was a lot easier to ride than the 125.
Re: Motorbike for my girl ... your advice ?
Can you get reliable insurance for bikes that will actually pay out if it gets stolen?
Re: Motorbike for my girl ... your advice ?
I currently have the Wave S and it's been a very good bike for this place with just a little bit more power convenient for longer rides, but haven't been able to find a new one, legally imported, for a few years now. The machine is a 110 cc. The drum brake version had a 100cc engine at that time if I recall well.SlowJoe wrote: ↑Wed Jun 15, 2022 5:48 pmThere were only two as of last month, but I saw them because the boss of the place I was working for wanted a new bike and I was helping him look.Kammekor wrote: ↑Wed Jun 15, 2022 5:39 pmAre you 100% sure? Re: Motorbike for my girl ... your advice ?
I paid $1,350 for a new drum brake 100 cc wave in Kampot at NCX last july
dreams for $2,250 ( friend just brought one there last week for his girl) are way overpriced for 25 cc more, but you do get a wider seat, fancy ignition and some other crap on it
i had the 125 wave in thailand, Paid 32,000 for it NEW and sold it 6 years later for 18,000
they dont even sell the 100 there anymore , there all 110's
the extra 25 cc is nice
In a nation run by swine, all pigs are upward-mobile and the rest of us are fucked until we can put our acts together: not necessarily to win, but mainly to keep from losing completely. HST
Re: Motorbike for my girl ... your advice ?
I just checked NCXs website, the new Wave Alpha is a 110cc (same engine it seems as the Wave S, only carbed not fuel injected although some Wave Ss had carbs).Kammekor wrote: ↑Wed Jun 15, 2022 6:11 pm I currently have the Wave S and it's been a very good bike for this place with just a little bit more power convenient for longer rides, but haven't been able to find a new one, legally imported, for a few years now. Drum brake though, I was mistaken on the disk, I don't know why I thought it had a disk but it definitely has the 110 engine because it's the same engine as my old Wave RSX.

Bike insurance? How about health?
They can not ride. She will have an accident. Most are not life-threatening injuries, but there are huge amounts of permanent limps and scars (Cambodian knee tattoo is a given). I caught up with a mate of mine, yesterday, whom was hit 3 weeks ago (2nd time in 6 months), injuring his head. He has been forgetting things since. Another mate still struggles walking after 2 years.
These are guys who can ride. One is Cambodian.
Anyway, that's what you're buying, so perhaps a defensive driving course, thrown in. They don't sweat, so I'm sure leathers come in pink.
People who say they've never had an incident; you, no doubt, pay attention to your surroundings and have homeland nous. And you have probably come closer than you know. These guys think it's a video game.
If it wasn't the advice you were looking for, you should have been more specific. If it is the type of bike you're after, I would suggest a smaller dirt bike: Gets her out of trouble quick, safe tyres as opposed the dangerous ones on the puddle-jumpers, she will look sexy, and, who knows, she might be dropping wheelies soon.
On a positive note, you should get some lovin' out of it.

Scoopy.
Or whatever it’s called. Red, common. I haven’t a clue about it’s model year or anything else.
We’ve had it going on 3 1/2 nearly 4 years. It was purchased second hand within 10-15 minutes walk of St110. It’s carted 3 kids, swmbo and a weeks vegetables, frequently, in recent times. Much to my chagrin. It doesn’t use much gas. At times it was costlier to park than to run, when we lived closer to riverside, but it’s served it’s purpose, and despite some mishandling, is going fairly strong.
I’ve ridden it once. There’s unlikely to be a twice. Never as or with pillion. I’m too chicken.
We (I) paid about $700, and it was in fairly good condition, as best as I could tell. I paid what I was willing to lose if it got trashed, or stolen, forcing SWMBO to use Shanks’s pony.
The need for a bike is best answered by yourself. No one, cynical comments or side splitting humour aside is going to be able to accurately comment on something that there’s only superficial knowledge of. Many comments may well be based on anecdotal experience. Nearly everyone wants a nice shiny new thing, if possible. With youth comes a lack of sense of proportion.
I’d say unwisely, you mentioned ‘young’ in the opening post, and if you don’t want such details to become gossip fodder for the audience, it would be advisable to apply some discretion, and not divulge more detail than is needed to canvas opinion on a specific topic.
