Cambodia News (Banteay Meanchey Province): On June 9, 2022, a tragic event was reported concerning a woman with mental health problems: a 50-year-old woman set herself on fire, after attempting to kill her husband and her son, in a brick manufacturing warehouse in Balilai 2 village, Sangkat Poipet. The authorities discovered the charred body of Ngoun Sokmom at 6:30pm at the above address.
According to the woman's husband, Chay Meng, a 64-year-old man, previously, on June 4, he had accompanied his wife to a health center in Mongkul Borey district in order to treat her mental illness.

According to Chom Sokkheng, a 52-year-old male coffee seller and witness at the scene, at 3:30 pm on June 9, he heard a 12-year-old boy screaming for help because his mother was forcing him to swallow rat poison. He and the other neighbors rushed to help and saw the boy was being forced to take the poison by his 50-year-old mother; they pulled the boy away from her and she ran off.

It is reported that earlier on the day of the incident, the wife had started behaving aggressively and burnt all of the family documents. The husband had tried to intervene but was attacked by his wife with a cleaver, causing him to run away to his daughter's shop to seek help. While there, he was told by a neighbor that his son was being forced to take poison by his wife, and then 20 minutes later, the son called to say that his mother had died after she set herself on fire.

The police came to examine the body and determined that the woman had committed suicide. The body of the deceased was given to the family for the funeral.
