Drinking days. Poll.
Re: Drinking days. Poll.
I belive that this is the case. At home in northern Europe it is not possible to drink every day. You need to go to work in the morning. And having a social life in the afternoons include the use of a car in my part of the world as I live way out in the mountains.John Bingham wrote: ↑Tue Jun 07, 2022 5:32 pmIt's possibly because a large proportion of posters don't live in Cambodia. If they did they would probably drink every day.Clutch Cargo wrote: ↑Tue Jun 07, 2022 5:23 pm I've heard the glib comment a number of random times that expats in Cambodia are all alcoholics. I know, bit of a throw away line but maybe some truth in it too..
Anyway, so far this poll doesn't show that.. Is it a myth or are some not owning up on this poll?
Going to Thailand and Cambodia things get very different indeed. I normally stay away from drinking on Sundays as I feel that my liver needs a little relief. But yes, I do agree that my drinking habits goes from one day a week to 6 days a week when in the KOW and LOS.

I'm mostly teetotal, unless I drink that day
Re: Drinking days. Poll.
I knew a heavy drinker who lived to be 80 years old. He drank every day. He drank only the best liquor, he told me how important it is to drink the purest alcohol, because it is gentler on the liver. And it gives you a better high. So drinking too much becomes less of a problem.

Just because your an expat and enjoy a beer with your meals doesn't make you an alcoholic. Same as someone likes a joint doesn't make them a druggie. Plenty of older people men and women have been having a night cap most of thier lives.
I'm standing up, so I must be straight.

Well I can't believe that the draft beer at 0.50cents a pop on Street 172 interests the tourist to travel half way across the globe, let's face it, apart from the low price the beer has nothing going for it, when you compare it with beers from your own countries! The UK and Ireland boasting pints of the black stuff and plenty of good bitters. European beers again are far more superior than the Cambodian swill.
I very rarely drink here, but will if I am socialising, I too prefer a few large shorts to the water they call beer.

The guy might have lived to 100 years if he didn't drink alcohol.

Sure, besides the fact that a round of beers in Dublin would cost more than a whole night's drinking here, transport is a major issue. Parking is very expensive, and you really don't want to be caught over the limit. Taxis, when you can get one, are ridiculously expensive.Tommie wrote: ↑Tue Jun 07, 2022 6:15 pmI belive that this is the case. At home in northern Europe it is not possible to drink every day. For me, it's easy to be honest about the fact that i'm a boozehead for 2 reasons:
1. If you saw me & i'd pretend not to be a C2 abuser, it'd be ridiculous.
2. Used to be a hardcore user. No meth, but a lot of other dopes. Now it's only firewater. Progress i guess?

Drinking every day is ok if you have just 2. If you drink 20 every day you're probably going to make yourself ill. If you only drink twice a week but don't get home until 6am then that doesn't sound too good either.

As a former sailor there where some ground rules that has stuck with me on my travels.
No alcohol before 1500.
No hard liquor until the sun sets.
Be in bed by 2400.
Have one day a week with no alcohol.
I try to do this every time I travel, but I have to admit that the in bed by 2400 policy is hard to live by. I have slipped up there a few times.
