stop press, Boris Johnson faces vote of no confidence

Yeah, that place out 'there'. Anything not really Cambodia related should go here.

History repeatedly shows us how the Tory party turns on their leader when enough of them think they are going to lose their jobs. He's bought himself another year but I'd be surprised if he's still there come election time. 59% vs 41%, anything but a resounding vote of confidence. I guess the next question is which of his soon to be backstabbing power hungry colleagues will be next in line, surely they can't be worse than this clown.

We live in a two party system whereby the party that is hated the least gets in, not the party that has the best policies. The two main political parties in the UK may as well rename themselves Capitalist and Socialist, because this is the real choice people have at election time. The parties themselves are mere representations of the two political systems. Are you capitalist? Vote Tory. Are you socialist? Vote Labour. Are you, as most people are, including myself, somewhere in-between, well, you're kinda screwed. Now just pick one.

People vote Tory not because they particularly like or support the Tory party, they just dislike the idea of a socialist government being in control. The last time Labour were in power was only because Tony Blair dragged it from the hard left into the centre-right, which was just about where most people sit on the political spectrum, hence one of the biggest majorities in 1997 of any party in the history of the UK. Shame he went on to totally f*ck it up but that's for another thread.

The fact that the Tories will just about survive this crisis with Boris remaining in charge is not a reflection of how much people in the UK support the Tories. It's a reflection of them feeling the only other choice is a socialist government, and no matter how bad things look for the Tories at the moment, it isn't bad enough to make them consider socialism as an alternative.

This is what happens in an undemocratic, two-party system like the UK. The least worst gets to govern. Not the best.

If the war in Ukraine ends this year and inflation is controlled and fuel prices stabilise and airlines stop cancelling flights and the economy picks up at bit and he manages not to blatantly fuck something up or commit further crime ( a big ask) , then he will become a hero once again to the PCP, the membership and acceptable to most people who voted for him last time.

Anything less than that and he will still be in deep trouble in a year's time and could be removed next summer in time to bed in a new PM and an election in 2024.

There are a few who will never vote conservative if Boris is the leader, but many will, even of they have to hold their noses while doing so.

There are constituency boundary changes due to come in force in late 2023, and these are to the clear advantage to the conservatives, so don't expect an election before then.
