Cambodia News, Phnom Penh: The Investigating Judge of the Phnom Penh Municipal Court on May 30, 2022, issued a temporary detention order for a Chinese man on charges of illegal detention and extortion of US$ 565,000.

The defendant is identified as WANG ZHANG FU, Male, 41 years old, Chinese, Occupation: Businessman, Residence: Prince Diamond One Condo, 16th Floor, Sangkat Tonle Bassac, Khan Chamkarmon, Phnom Penh. He was arrested by the Phnom Penh Municipal Bureau of Minor Offenses on May 27, 2022, and the case was sent to the Phnom Penh Municipal Court in connection with the crime of detention and extortion.

In connection with the above charges, it is known that at 4 o'clock on April 29, 2022, a group of criminals, all Chinese, drove a Lexus car on the road behind the residence of Samdech Pich Chey Banh, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense in Sangkat Boeung Kak II, Khan Toul Kork, Phnom Penh. The occupants of the vehicle then forced an unnamed Chinese man into the car and then drove off.


The victim was held for ransom and at 1:20 am on May 3, 2022, the criminals released the victim in exchange for 565,000 US dollars. After the release, the victim then cooperated with the Cambodian authorities to file a complaint against the four perpetrators involved in his kidnapping and extortion.

It should be noted that after the incident, the local police force and the Phnom Penh Criminal Police investigated to identify the criminals involved in the kidnapping case, researching through security cameras on public roads. The victim's complaint led to the arrest of the Chinese man named above and police continue to search for more accomplices.
