Cambodia News (Ratanakkiri): On 18 May 2022, more than 100 people's houses were severely damaged after a water reservoir belonging to a Vietnamese banana plantation company, Hang Anh, collapsed and flooded the vicinity. The incident happened at 4 pm in Sre Angkor Commune, Kon Mom District, Ratanakkiri Province.

According to Mr. Sek Hay, the Governor of Kon Mom District, the people’s houses were entirely flooded, caused by the sudden collapse of a water reservoir belonging to the Chamkar Cheik banana plantation due to the recent heavy rainfall.
The district governor continued that it only took two hours for the water to recede, and the people were not too affected because the district authorities and the armed forces intervened to help people in time, so nobody lost their lives. The villagers just lost more than 100 houses and some equipment.

Separately, Mr. Sek Hay added that around this case, he will provide expertise to collect specific statistics and ask the Red Cross to help the villagers, and will discuss with the Hang Anh company so that the company helps them find a safe place to build more housing.

Capitalism without responsibilities. Great situation for the company.

If I were the village chief of that village I would fear the upcoming local elections.....

The banana company has a big reservoir now at the expense of the local community.
Always "hope" but never "expect".
