Chinese investor charged for $1 million fraud

A Chinese investor has been charged in the Phnom Penh Municipal Court for cheating his business partner of about $1 million last year.

Court documents identified the accused as Wang Ching Kang, 42, a Chinese businessman living in Tuol Kork district’s Boeng Kak II commune.

Wang was charged with two counts of “Fraud and Forgery” under Articles 377, 378, 626 and 627 of the Criminal Code on Thursday.

Municipal military police officer Major Ly Kimhong said yesterday that the accused was arrested on Thursday following a report lodged by his countryman named Wong Yan Yi.

Wong had claimed Wang had cheated him of about $1 million in 2021 through a company-joint-venture.

Wang, faces a three-year jail term if convicted.
