Re: Where to next?... Australia?
Jobs galore in Australia but accomodation and everything else very expensive. A room in a share house is minimum $180 a week almost anywhere. Fruit pickers are finally getting a living wage, about $23.50.
The backpackers are returning here in the tropics in large numbers. They love the country so it can't be too bad.
There are so many jobs available in hospitality, transport, building and on farms.
And to the critic of a wage rise of 5%, if a business can't afford an extra dollar and hour for workers then they should get out of business.
Business always whinge about wage costs but never mention increases in costs of insurance and rents and other overheads. Inflation is rampant in Australia, the cost of food up 4% in the first quarter. A change of government is likely this weekend which may lead to some better policies for working people. Far too many living in cars and garages.

Now that's a contradictory statement! You can expect more people living in their carswillyhilly wrote: ↑Wed May 18, 2022 1:50 am Jobs galore in Australia but accomodation and everything else very expensive. It's the old carrot & the donkey scenario, entice them with more money rather than affordability.
The RBA raised interest rates for the sole purpose of slowing expenditure & inflation.
Inflation + Interest rates + 5.1 Wage increase = Higher unemployment!
