Property Tax

I went with the owner of the house/ property to the Taxation Department to pay the property tax yesterday. Had all of the paperwork but was told they needed the ID card of the house owners mother ?.

Went back today by myself, asked for someone who spoke English, and was told , need the house owners phone number and birth certificate and one of the paperwork was not clear enough.

I told them I would call my friend Prime Minister HE and ask why they would not accept the tax money.
If the government does not want it I will spend it all on beers and burgers.

So bloody hard to do anything in Cambodia.

Anything to do with officialdom is a hard task to deal with if you are a foreigner. I have delt with authorities on a number of occasions, and very recently. Before I have done everything by the book, and they will throw every frustrating "can't do" in front of you, if you persist you will eventually get there, one way or another.

It goes against the grain for me, and I don't like it one little bit. But, find someone in the office who speaks English and grease the first palm.
Always "hope" but never "expect".

I had the same frustrating time when I lost my drivers license in the end I gave up and didn't bother getting a replacement.
I'm standing up, so I must be straight.

Just heard from a colleague that they released a Prakas yesterday and are planning to go house to house to check if property Taxes are paid (or correctly paid).

Good. Can you give them my property address and to send the Top Official that speaks English to collect the property tax, as I am not going to waste my time again, begging them to take my money.ImageImage
