Do you mean the line through Laos?AndyKK wrote: ↑Fri Apr 22, 2022 1:18 pmBut I am under the understanding that Thailand has the Chinese rail link that stopped short of Bangkok, the Thai's and China are probably thinking of linking to Cambodia and onwards.kagi wrote: ↑Fri Apr 22, 2022 12:38 pm , during a remote meeting with Saksayam Chidchob, Minister of Transport of Thailand on April 20.
The main purpose of the meeting is to strengthen cooperation between the two countries in the public works and transportation sectors, both within the bilateral and in the regional framework.
Thailand has been talking about high speed trains for years. Not much happening and none planned going to Cambodia.

Re: High-speed railway system
Raw sewage on some streets, some areas of the city have sporadic access to clean water, no public transportation, parks or pedestrianized spaces. Very few trees and a generally low urban quality of life, but they're talking about high-speed rail in a country the size of a thimble. It's like trying to run before learning to walk. I get that they're trying to improve in all areas as quickly as possible, but you'd think they'd prioritize some more urgent ones, or focus on just trains that can go 70kmh without stopping...

High speed rail is a buzz word that has been misused here. In an earlier speech the PM said new lines would be used for freight, which always runs at lower speeds than passenger services.
“We are now considering upgrading the existing two railway lines which run at a speed of 20 to 30 km to the high-speed railway,” the Premier said.
He said that the new rail lines would be built to facilitate goods transport and people mobilisation and connect the rail tracks with rail lines in neighbouring countries.

Anyone else remember them considering building a nuclear plant here? This talk of high-speed rail gives me the same puckering feeling.
I am sooooo very sorry if you can't understand or appreciate my sarcastic facetiousness.

Re: High-speed railway system
The article seems to play it off as a partnership with Thailand. I have seen others say that it may be with China too. I am just worried to see too much indebtedness through the B&RI. I think more partnerships with neighbors is good, but with China is more of a mixed bag.

But it will be such has China being that of the big investor of their ongoing dream of the belt and road.techietraveller84 wrote: ↑Sun Apr 24, 2022 11:37 am The article seems to play it off as a partnership with Thailand. Always "hope" but never "expect".

Re: High-speed railway system
High speed rail is an important part of the Chinese pacification process of Tibet. Large numbers of Chinese easily relocated from their cities into Tibet. Cheaper than flying.
If it’s Cambodia’s new best friend, I am sure they are thinking along those lines.
Just worried that in a few decades after being built, the Khmer will become a minority in their own country.
