Acleda's new Payband

Post by Doc67 »

I came across this and am not sure if it is a great idea or a terrible one. It is not just for contactless payments but also for cash withdrawals at Acleda ATM's that accept contactless. I hope you also need a PIN for cash withdrawals or the watch becomes a very attractive items for thieves (contactless already has plenty of security issues).

There are only two wrists on the average human body, and you already have normal watches, Smart Watches and health monitors already competing for very limited bodily real estate. Who would want to wear one of these when it only has one function? You can do everything it does with your phone.

Am I missing something or just a luddite?

B: banking with acleda while there's an alternative

Quote - This PayBand will be available soon and in limited edition.
It looks to me that the number they will be, the customers will be saying look at my wrist I have money. A kind of Acleda's alite.

What is "flexing"?

In this context, you would be showing off a watch

Baby boomers wear watches, rest of the world largely does not unless it's being used with a suit in some sort of old fashioned business setting

Well, I wear a watch pretty much every day. Not sure if you consider, I surely don’t, a $250 Bulova “flexing”, but I like it.

Lots of people wear watches. I always do. I gather Jerry Atrick thinks he's some sort of man of the future because he uses a phone to tell the time? :D

Do you actually need to use theirs, or can you just use your smart watch if you happen to have one? I'd assume they just hand out theirs to select customers as a marketing tool.

Just speculating though. I don't have a smart watch and I don't want one either.
