Re: Door to Door Immigration Checks in Siem Reap

I was looking for a guy who owed me money and sent the police (immigration and tourist) after him. They couldn't locate him and now they are going door to door. I never expected them to be this diligent for a relatively paltry amount. :hattip:

On a serious note, though. They are just doing in SR what they have been doing in SHV for a while now. They are checking all establishments that are either owned or managed by foreigners or seem to employ foreigners to see whether they have the newly required work permit. I didn't like it as I am not an employee and invested enough money in this country. But even my somewhat highly-placed friend said I need to comply, after all, it's only a few hundred dollars. He is basically right, but who knows where all this money ends up and for what purpose. The two weeks are the time given to comply, that is, to apply for the work permit at the Department of Labor and Vocational Training. I understand there are quite a few locations for that in SR. In SHV we have only one. You can wait until they come to your place or go apply voluntarily. You might avoid the fine which is $100 this way.
