Missing Schoolgirl Found Murdered

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

Most cases of violence against people(without theft), including crimes against children, are committed by people known to the victim. This is "most of the time" in general, and I'd say that in a Cambodian village you can be more or less sure that the attacker knew the victim - like 99% sure.

I say this because if a strange person turns up in a village where they do not belong, you can be sure that there are some eagle-eyes watching this person's every move. Sadly, it is very likely that killers or rapists are either a member of the victim's family, a lover or an ex, or a member of the same village.
There is definitely something weird in this case. By that I mean that it's strange that that the police had so many problems to discover who-dunnit. (I don't even know them, but I would bet on family or neighbors as responsible for this crime.)

BTW - what happened to the CPU in this case ?

A properly conducted post-mortem will quickly confirm the cause of death. If it is by extreme trauma of being hit by a car, these injuries are easily established. If it was by strangulation or other murderous assault, these will be different injuries. I can't see how the cause of death hasn't been established within a few days of finding the body and then being announced, if for no other reason than at least to assuage the public fear of a murderer in their midst.

There is no reason to keep such findings a secret, yet the proper reporting and publication of these primary findings seem to be beyond the authority's comfort zone. There is a culture of secrecy and this leads to nonsense media reporting by lackeys at the KT or FN, who haven't got the courage or the brains to ask questions - they just copy and paste the press release.

Fresh News is a branch of the Cambodian People’s Party and carries the official word from Iron Man. Khmer Times saw what happened to the other English news agencies (aka, were shut down) for not towing the official line. Asking questions isn’t courage, it’s an invitation to get shut down in Cambodia.

Would you prefer NO news at all?

My opinions, of course.

You've got your quotes confused NKOTB. I didn't write that. I agree with some of what Doc67 said, but I wouldn't have put it like that, and anyway, they are not my words.

There might be something wrong with the quote button. If I write my comment here after NKOTB, it gets included in his post. Which is why I've put my comment before his post and put this bit in green. Mods ??? Any idea what is happening ? AM :o

There's a closing quote missing. Once added all is fine.
NKOTB needs to review Quoting 101.

Duly noted. Thank you for educating me.

There’s plenty that I wish would happen in Cambodia that I know will never happen. Because it is the way it is and the powers that be keep it they way.

Even missus makes jokes about it.

Local news like this seriously restricts my kid's life.

Going to school by bus, escorted to and from the bus by a parent.
Never plays out, but can have friends coming over.

The KoW for sure has a dark side.

I have noticed a pattern with some posters regarding quoting of certain other users posts.

The following are quotes of posts from this thread and are for illustration purposes only.

Quote Post 1
Cooldude wrote: Thu Mar 10, 2022 5:08 pm That's a really, really sad story. Some really evil and nasty people around.
Quote Post 2
Cooldude wrote: That's a really, really sad story. Some really evil and nasty people around.
You will notice Post 1 has a clickable username while Post 2 does not. The difference between these two posts is that in Post 2 the unique identifiers have been removed.
This is the quote line from Post 1 and I will use standard parenthesis instead of square brackets so the forum doesn't get all uppity.

Post 1:
(quote=Cooldude post_id=538083 time=1646906932 user_id=7922)
Breaking this line down we get:-
"post_id=538083": This is likely a unique identifier assigned to the quoted post by the forum's software. This allows other users to easily find the original post being referenced.
"time=1646906932": This appears to be a Unix timestamp representing the date and time when the quoted post was made.
"user_id=7922": This is likely the unique identifier assigned to the user who made the original post. This can be useful for tracking a user's posting history or for moderation purposes and likely is used when assigning forum "Reputation".

The line in Post 2:
(quote=Cooldude)
As you can see, removing the 3 unique identifiers does not break the code but since they are not present the user cannot be identified by the forum software and thus their profile and "reputation" points cannot be accessed or increased.

This is seriously fucked up...

Banteay Meanchey Provincial Police Chief Major General Seth Loh said yesterday that the five suspects included five members of the same family, a father, a mother, a son, a daughter and a son-in-law.

According to police, the accused family members were neighbours of the victim, who lived in a house situated in front of the victim’s family home in Tomnup Kor Pram village, Poipet city, Banteay Meanchey province.
Maj Gen Loh said that according to the police investigation, the victim’s murder was motivated by long-standing rancor between her parents and the accused family, whose homes faced each other in the same village.

The girl is believed to have died after a road accident. The perpetrator is alleged to have targeted the girl deliberately with a motorcycle while she was walking home from school.

After her death, her body was allegedly taken by the man responsible for her death and concealed in his family home before being buried after dark later in a shallow grave near the side of the road.
