Discussions about restaurants, cafes, coffee shops or bars in Cambodia. Feel free to write any reviews you have, whether its the best burger you've had in Phnom Penh or the worse pizza in Kampot, we want to read it! Discussions about Khmer dishes are also in here, or you can leave your own. If you own a restaurant, feel free to let the expat community know about it here so that we can come check it out. Found a favorite cafe or have a place we should avoid? Tell us about it. Asian recipes & questions are always welcome.

The tall form may also be difficult- hard to find a tall baking dish.
I found it just that, the pastry was hell of a challenge to be honest. I have never made a pork pie, up to now that is.

Yes, there is jelly, but I think not enough, and that may have contributed to the pulled sidewall pastry of the pie to lose its grip.
But, no problem, next time I will make a batch of smaller pies to see how they will turn out. But now I am thinking of pasties, and the king of pies, meat and potato.

Eeyan wrote: Thu Mar 24, 2022 11:33 pm Phnom Penh clearly needs a pie specialist, someone who could create and distribute proper good quality pies to the establishments frequented by discerning expats.

Sounds like the type of thing someone could make a real go of. They could become famous locally and have a great nickname like The Man of Pies, or ManPie, or Pie Pete... I can't quite narrow that down, but whoever does it would surely become a very popular guy.

Would suit a round, northern Englishman ideally.
What could possibly go wrong? 🤷‍♂️
Back in the days I stayed at Norms Guesthouse (Kampot) which featured a restaurant called "Kampot Pie" on the ground floor claiming to serve the best pie of South East Asia. He did not survive long time.
I don't know if this is the place you are referring too, or is it something different being back in the day.

Kampot Pie and Ice Cream Palace

Looking at their menu it's the first time I have seen pork pie advertised in Cambodia.

Pie porn....just look at those delicious layers of buttery puff pastry goodness, and the array of filling options ... yet to come across anyone making and selling pies of this quality in Cambodia. Dandelion Cafe in Kampot came close, unfortunately the business didn't last too long, as with many Kampot foreigner owned businesses.

Good lord, they look Fray Bentos-esque, I’m imagining steak and kidney. All they need is some rich brown gravy escaping between the crust and the tray.

You are taking the piss I hope! Comparing a pie-in-a-tincan to those culinary masterpieces...blasphemy! :D
