Phnom Penh sees dramatic drop in criminal offences
Governor Khuong Sreng said there has been a dramatic drop in cases of criminal offences in Phnom Penh.
He was speaking at the annual meeting on Wednesday to review Phnom Penh City Hall’s work done last year and plans for this year.
Sreng said that last year there were 654 cases of crime, while cases of penal offences were only 328 – down 49.8%, compared to 2020.
Sreng said among those offences were 311 cases on which action was taken by the authorities.
“The drop in cases of penal offences here is a positive sign for the residents of Phnom Penh,” he said.
Sreng pointed out that traffic accidents in Phnom Penh last year were also lower than in 2020.

Something positive from the covid restrictions I'd suggest

Re: Dramatic Drop in Phnom Penh Crime Rate Says Governor
If the governor takes the drop as a drama, does it mean criminals should do their best to cheer him up ?
Re: Dramatic Drop in Phnom Penh Crime Rate Says Governor
In a city with a full-time population of more than 2 million people along with a large transient population of workers how is it possible that there were only "311 cases on which action was taken by authorities". Along with many people losing jobs and void of income (I think maybe Covid worked the other way, to increase crime). 1.5/100 of 1 percent of the population assuming no repeat offenders in PP committed an actionable crime? What a great place to live.CEOCambodiaNews wrote: ↑Fri Mar 04, 2022 12:36 pm March 4, 2022
