Cambodia News (Kandal Province): On February 25, 2022, at 12:50 pm in Prek Ta Ong 2 village,in Kandal province, a 13-year-old girl named Veasna Sreypov from Prek Ta Ong 1 village, died from drowning in the Mekong river while taking a bath with friends. According to an eyewitness, Peum Reaksmey, herself, the victim, and 2 other friends went to take a bath in the Mekong river.
She said that she warned the victim not to swim too far out into the river, but moments later, the victim and another girl name Seng Ratanasophorn were in trouble and signaled for help. Reaksmey reached out with a bamboo stick to Seng Ratanasophorn to pull her to the shore. She also threw a plastic floater for Veasna Sreypov, but unfortunately, the girl was dragged under the water by exhaustion and the strong currents.

The victim's parents were notified and authorities were called in to search for the victim. The victim was found at 4:10 pm and sadly she died from drowning, which was confirmed by the authorities. RIP.
