Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

Eleven busted in gambling house sting
Thu, 7 May 2015
Buth Reaksmey Kongkea
Eleven men accused of illegal gambling offences are expected to face court today after being snared in a police raid on a gaming house in Kandal province’s Takhmao town.

The suspects, including three Chinese nationals, were detained on Tuesday afternoon at an online gambling shop during a joint operation by provincial police and military police, according to Takhmao police chief Colonel Soem Buthbandith. “They were arrested because they have been operating illegal gambling and playing fishing [arcade] games, illegally, in the town,” Buthbandith said.

“These illegal games have impacted people, especially schoolchildren who live nearby this area . . . and it’s also caused many problems such as robbery, stealing and other illegal acts happening in the province.”

Buthbandith said three gaming machines were confiscated during the bust. He said the suspects were questioned yesterday at provincial military police headquarters and would be sent to Kandal Provincial Court today for further questioning.

If found guilty, the suspects face between one month and one year in prison.

Can they refuse to go to prison because the courts are fixed?
